Although you have a serious face and you feel like it,
Why won’t you make a sad face for me?
If it’s what you want, i f it’s only tears,
“It’s okay to cry.” Or something is what you’ll say. Right?

His strides were quick and sharp, coupled with the certainty of where he was headed and the rising heat of his anger peaking from head to his nether regions, Mathias’ mind was a jumbled mess of emotions just dying to find some sort of avenue of release. And as if it knew where it belonged, his body let itself drown freely in the whims of his head. Never in his life had he thought their college building was so huge that it would take him ages to get to where he wanted to go. Once, he believed it had been a waste for him to come to this premier yet ultimately comparatively miniature in structure and population. Today was different. The hallways were longer, there were more twists and turns, students kept bumping onto him like annoying obstructions in his path. It felt like it had been a thousand years before he finally found the door of the room he was looking for. He hastened his pace and swung the door open, ignoring the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign, knowing full-well that the only man who placed that sign specifically does not want anything or anyone to touch him, not even the man who adored his body, heart and soul with everything he had.

Then again, it’s not as if Mathias could hold back anymore.

Massive bags under his eyes, the angry Norwegian turned to the intruder with a menacing glare, maddened at the sudden interruption. His eyes went wide with surprise at seeing the heavily panting Dane stomping towards him with predatory eyes. He stepped back, feeling a chill run down his spine. “M-Mathias, what are you doing here!? I put up the sign!”

“Shut up.” Mathias gripped him by the wrist and vigorously pulled Lukas toward him and fervently kissed him, forcing his tongue inside, tasting every corner of his mouth, burning the sensation in his mind. Lukas struggled against him, but Mathias held him fast. What’s going on? Is he angry about something!? Was all Lukas could think of as their lips unlocked but quickly returned to their battle of domination despite both losing breath. Lukas felt his knees quiver and turn to jelly as Mathias’ lips moved from his to the side of his neck, planting marks here and there, whispering soft nothings in his ear.

“Mathias! Cut it out!”

“Tsk. You should learn when to shut up, and let me do my work, Lukas baby.”

Mathias nibbled on Lukas’ earlobe earning a loud gasp from the other. Lukas tried to resist, begging him to stop but his voice didn’t seem to reach the Dane who kept leaving red marks in obvious places. He then felt a hand slowly under his shirt caressing his backside then slowly glided down and slipping into his pants. Lukas found his voice and attempted again to push the dazed Mathias off him.

“Don’t fuck with me! We’re in school!”

“You say that but you seem even more turned on than usual.”

Mathias pulled him even closer overpowering the other and then kissed him with as much force as he did at the beginning, then started to push Lukas down. Slowly losing balance, Lukas fell to the floor with a thud, Mathias entire weight pushing him down, hindering him from getting up. His wrists, bound by Mathias’ hands, were above his head allowing the Dane all the best view at his beautiful prize. Lukas was panting heavily. Mathias kept kissing him until his head was completely blank, making him lose the strength to refuse. What the hell was happening? Mathias had never been this forceful, and he would only do this if he had Lukas’ permission. He treasured him above all else and would always want Lukas to feel the pinnacle of pleasure brought by gentleness and love and yet here he was, pinned to the floor and sapped of all strength that all he could do was submit.

---------------------------------------

In the end, we went all the way. To make it even worse, we’re still in school. Lukas thought as he lay naked with Mathias on his stomach on the couch their college theatre organization had used for an event once. He was sore and red all over, not to mention he was sweaty and sticky inside and out from the rigorous activity, plus he could not move an inch since one, he was hurting so much and two, Mathias could awaken from his sleep. He reminded himself to the thank the theatre organization one of these days for their couch idea.

He stared at the sleeping face beside him, snoring soundly with not a care in the world. It was hard to believe that this was the same pheromone-ridden alpha male that took him and continuously thrusted his manhood into him again and again. He looked too peaceful, and to Lukas altogether precious. He stopped himself from these thoughts as he realized he had been grinning like a fool. His next thoughts as to why he would come here so eager for sex enough to render Lukas incapable for work turned his smile upside down. He was mad. But why? He tried to recall any time where he had done something against the Dane but to no avail. Any other person would have to be Arthur but Arthur was here not too long ago. Something must have happened at home that could’ve ticked him off.

Or that it had something to do with Emil.

As soon as the thought popped into his mind, like an instinct, Mathias’ began to stir, his eyes opening slowly, allowing Lukas to get a glimpse of his beautiful azure eyes. Those eyes that captivated him from the moment Lukas saw him. It reminded him of home, of the beautiful lake splayed towards the horizon and filling out into the ocean. He let his hand reach out and touch Mathias’ face gently, feeling the lines and features of his handsome form. Mathias curled into his touch, kissing his palm and feeling his warmth. Never in his life had he thought he would ever cherish anyone like this that it felt all too surreal to have him here with him in the dimly lit room, even amidst the clutter of materials scattered about. He was taken by surprise when Lukas winced in pain when he shifted his weight a little bit to keep them both from falling off the couch.

“I’m sorry.” He said with a soft voice.

“Damn right you should be, horny bastard. It hurt like hell and you didn’t even prepare me.” Mathias moved a hand to Lukas’ bottom and began massaging him. It was all he could think of at that moment. He then brought his face towards Lukas and brushed their lips together.

Ah, this feeling. Lighthearted and warm at the same time. He always loved Mathias’ kisses and Mathias loved kissing Lukas more than anything. It was the only thing that kept him sane for the longest time and he doubted anything could amount to the bliss he felt with those soft lips and the sweet sounds that he makes. Only Lukas. Lukas.

How could he continue with this?

Lukas broke their kiss and looked him in the eyes. Mathias smiled at him and pulled him into an embrace then into his lover’s ear he whispers, “I love you.” with all the conviction he could muster.

From below him Lukas shudders as he repeats the words of love to Mathias. They both fell silent for a while just hugging. Then Lukas breaks the silence, desperate for answers.

“Is there something I should know?”

Mathias stays still, silent and deciding whether this was the right time to come out and say it. But how?

Hey! I’ve been sleeping with your brother because he knows someone that can make our dreams come true! It was all physical and I love you the most!

As if he would accept that. Besides, he has other things to worry about. He glances at the shadow of Lukas thesis project which was coming out very well. It was beautiful just like him and for him to suddenly impose this notion, it would break his heart and would depress him for sure. With that, he let him go and got off the couch. Lukas simply stared at him as he searched for his clothes atop a pile of cut-outs.

“Mathias?”

Mathias put on his pants and moved to Lukas, a smile on his face, and then kissed the latter’s forehead. “It’s nothing. I just wanted to show you how much I love you, that’s all.” He then put on his shirt and shoes and completed his look, just the way he entered the room. He then sat beside Lukas, caressing his face. As he stared, Lukas noticed the pained expression Mathias had on like he was trying to look cheerful but in fact it wasn’t working.

“Why are you always like this? Hiding things from me and keeping it to yourself, what am I supposed to be, Mathias?” Lukas’ voice was cracking and he knew it, but it was something he had to say. Mathias on the other hand, was taken aback by the sudden interrogation.

“What? Lukas, you know that even without me saying it. I love you, how much more do I have to say it for you to understand?”

“Am I not allowed to know what you’re feeling? Am I not allowed to share your troubles? I am not a mere decoration, Kohler. Don’t think that you’re the only one who knows how to deal with emotions because as far as I’m concerned, you CAN’T.”

Mathias withdrew his hand and stood up then started walking to the door. “Is that really how weak you see me, Lukas?”

Lukas found the strength in his legs and trailed after him, ignoring the pain in his underside. “You know I don’t mean it that way.”

“You’re right. You’ve always been like that. You knew what to do and how to work with situations that were even against you. But what do I do? I laugh it off and think it’ll all blow away in the end.”

“That’s not what I mean!”

“I get it, Lukas.” Mathias turned away from him and strode out the door. Lukas could do nothing but look at him from where he stood.

This is a disaster.

“I’ll be home late. Don’t wait up for me.”

“Mathias, please.” And with that Mathias strode out the door, leaving Lukas in the middle of all his work naked and bare, emotions running high and tears streaming down his cheeks.

-----------------------

Mathias strode into the hallway, his heart pumping wildly into his chest. He had no right to be mad at Lukas when it was he was at fault. Moreover, he had put off something so important that he knew Lukas needed to know. He knew it was something he couldn’t continue hiding and that was the perfect moment. But…

I could destroy him. That’s the last thing this relationship needs. Another broken soul.

The hallway was empty and more or less silent except for the muffled voices coming from lecture rooms and a few students passing by from time to time. Outside was also in the same state. The sun was high so for sure students are either in class, in their dorms, eating out or simply lazing around. It was always around this time that school was devoid of people. But nothing could be emptier now than the void in the lone blond Dane walking along the cobblestone walkway of his college.

The moonlight shines down on you who suddenly sank into silence
Aimlessly wandering on this highway, unable to stop I wonder since when
That what was more dazzling than any landscape was you

The only thing that leads me astray is you
So don't ever go, ever go, ever go, go away
Turn your heart around towards me
Don't ever go, ever go, ever go, go away
Because I don't want to let you go

-----------------------------------------

Yuri stirred beside me, reacting to the muffled sound of the beeping of the taxi cab. He had fallen asleep, his head on my shoulders and breathing slow and steady matching with the rising and falling of his chest. Yuri was smiling so he must have been having a good dream. I stopped myself before I could even hope that he was dreaming of the previous gala. I noticed we were nearing our hotel and proceeded to wake up Sleeping Beauty.

“Yuri, wake up. We’re almost here.” He stirred a little bit then went back to sleep. I chuckled. “Do you want me to kiss you awake, Yuri?”

The car swerved to the left, pushing us both to the right. My arms instinctively wrapped themselves around Yuri in protection. Once the car had steadied, Yuri’s head was on my chest, and looking as defenseless as he was back during the gala. I smiled a little bit, and kissed the top of his head. And then Yuri began to lift his head and looked up to me, eyes half lidded like he was still floating in his dreams. Regrettably realizing the position, he was in, Yuri quickly pulled away.

“S-sorry, Viktor!” deep red tinted at his cheeks all the way to his ears. “You should’ve woken me up!”

“Hm? Why? You were so cute asleep, Yuri. I couldn’t wake you up.”

An even deeper shade of red tinted his cheeks. It was amusing watching him squirm out of nervousness. Funny, I’d always wanted to know why he was so shy about these things when it was all real. But perhaps that’s what made him more endearing. The car suddenly slowed until it came to a stop in front our hotel’s lobby. After paying for the fare, we got out and walked back inside.

“This evening was fun, wasn’t it Viktor?” Yuri said walking beside me.

“Mhm. It is one evening I will never forget.”

Suddenly, he fell silent. Worried I might’ve said something, I asked him what was wrong. “It’s nothing. I can’t believe I got to talk to you that night. I always thought you’re so high up I’ll never manage even a hello. And yet the pictures argue against me.” he grimaced a little bit at the big reveal of the night during the Banquet of last year's gala.

“You did take me by quite a surprise.”

He fell silent once again before continuing. “Aren’t you disappointed? You came here accepting my request to train me and yet I completely forgot.”

“I would be lying if I said I wasn’t. But what can I do? You were drunk.” We reached the elevator and stepped inside. I pressed the button of our floor and slowly felt the lift of the elevator. “To be honest, I would be more disappointed if it was the booze asking me to be your coach.” I chuckled a bit.

“No way it was the booze talking!” There was a sudden shift as the elevator stopped on our floor and I am taken by surprise by Yuri’s voice suddenly rising and his yet again beet red face.

“Um, Yuri…?”

He stepped out the elevator first, walking briskly ahead of me towards our hotel room, red tint spreading faster through his cheeks. “I don’t remember anything that happened that night, but I know that even if I were drunk I would never ask anything like that just because I was intoxicated.” He then stopped in front of the door and brought out the keycard. But instead of inserting it and opening the door, he turned to me, a small smile etched on his face. “I’ve always looked up to you, Viktor. That was me talking, not the booze.”

‘Be mine, Viktor.’
Am I really allowed to believe that that was the real you speaking to me?

I let loose the chains of reason and let my body move on its own. Without warning, I grabbed the key card from him and opened the door. Then I grabbed a confused Yuri and yanked him inside by the wrist. I wasn’t thinking straight anymore, unlike those other times where I could still control myself, I was literally blacking out.

“V-Viktor..?!” I closed the door and slammed him onto it and then crashed our lips together, our tongues immediately engaging in a battle for dominance. I pressed my entire weight on him, making sure he wouldn’t escape. I inhaled his scent, remembering his taste and every part in his mouth. I let his lips go for a bit and moved to his neck and began to mark him.

“V..ah…slow down..!” My hand roamed the underneath of his shirt while the other pinned both his hands above his head. He let out a soft moan that sent shivers down my spine. Erotic.

“Viktor! We can’t do this! The short program is tomorr—mmph”

I shut him up with a deep kiss but let go after a while. “You’re wearing the black costume, aren’t you? Then you’re safe.”

“But…!”

I was beginning to calm down. I gave him a small smile and a kiss on the forehead. “Don’t worry. I won’t do it. I just want to feel you, and hold you. That’s all I want.”

Yuri looked away, obviously shy and at a loss for what to say. “…at least take me to bed. I’m no good like this.”

I smiled. “Leave it to me.”

Our destiny is something that no one can break
Don't cry with those eyes
Because I'll hold you close
I love you I love you I love you
At the very least,
I pray that tonight will last forever

----------------------------------------

I took his hand and pulled it to my direction, allowing me to switch our positions. Now I was on top and he had sunk into the feathered blanket. He hungrily licked his lips, one of his hand played with the buttons on my shirt as he took of his own. I bent down and buried my head on his neck, his scent enveloped me, driving me insane. Tearing off my shirt, I let my carnal instincts take over. I started kissing him everywhere-his eyes, his mouth-and leaving kiss marks all over him. I tasted his perk nipples, and oh how good they tasted. It was better than any gourmet meal I ever had. His hands worm their way around my neck, pulling me closer allowing us more skin contact. As he had done on the dancefloor, he ground his body onto mine, our erections rubbing against each other.

“Wh-what is this…ah!”

“Are you close, Yuri?” I smirked. I moved a hand downwards and grasped his still dripped member. It felt good in my hands, hot and throbbing. I then snaked my way to downwards and took it in my mouth. Yuri gasped in pleasure. He grabbed me by the hair trying to pull me away, but I remained fixated, tasting, feeling every vein that ran through him.

“Viktor…I’m close...let go!” I let him go, but retained my hand on him. He looked at me desperately with eyes begging me to continue.

“Wh-what are you doing?”

“Call my name, Yuri. Then I’ll let you come.”

“…Viktor…”

I gripped him tighter. “I said: Call. My. Name. You know it, don’t you, Yuri?”

“…V-Vitya. Vitya, please I’m so close, let me come!” I smirked.

“Good boy, Yuri.” With a few more strokes of my hand, he shuddered while he came violently in my hands. I savored him, his essence felt good on my tongue. I swear I have never tasted anything as sweet as this. I smiled then leaned down on him, kissing him slowly, then I let him go for a breath of air. Stroking his hair, I reached for the hand, our rings bumping onto each other with a silent click.

“You were amazing, Yuri. Thank you.”

His breathing remained erratic, but his smile was as evident as ever. “Really, tonight of all times.”

“Isn’t it fine?”

“And what if people see these marks you’ve left on me? They’ll think I was fooling around before the real thing.”

“Technically you were, at least with me.”

Whack!

"I’m only kidding.” I chuckled. I reached for him and kissed him again, this time gently. *"я тебя люблю "

He returned my kiss, smiling. ”僕も好きです” **

Not much was exchanged between us after that. We just lay there comfortably under the blankets with our fingers intertwined until we both fell asleep. Morning came and I was the first awake and I noticed our hands never left each other’s. His hands felt so nice and warm, like I was being protected from the crisp cold of Barcelona. Then I realized it was his love the enveloped me right now. The ring was all the proof I need. I kissed our rings and offered a silent prayer, to you who taught me love:

Even if I hide away the words I want to tell you
My love would overflow
So much that it would make you shiver For just a little bit longer
Don't say anything and follow me
My heart is crying that it wants to take you away with me
I need you I need you I need you

Even if tonight is the first and last time

Heeeeey! I'm back y'all! This has been by far the longest hiatus I have ever gone through. It's been so crazy this year, I can't even begin to describe my ecstasy at finishing this semester. Christmas break has officially started, at least for our batch of students and like always, I'm back to being my lazy fanfic author self. I seriously didn't touch this thing in a while, so I'm pretty happy to be putting up this new chapter. SO! It's the same as always! Kudos/Comments guys~ Lemme know what you think, point it out, and I'll see it through the best of my abilities~ <3 Love lots~

Lukas turned to a curb into the campus grounds, the sound of crunching stones and pebbles under the tire aiding him to slow the car to a full stop in the parking lot. He got out of the car, grabbed his things and headed for the Architecture building his blueprint tube dangling over his shoulder. He greeted the juniors and friends from the same years and in different courses, joking with them about the way they looked.

The campus was abuzz. The semester was about to end and everyone was busy with finals. Freshmen clamored about the sudden workload by their professors and graduates fussing over their incomplete units and pending thesis proposals. It was always this time of the year that one could feel the budding life of a student drowning in so much work that they could care less about even changing into work clothes and just come to school wearing their nightclothes, some not even eating before starting the day.

Lukas climbed the stairs leading to the architecture hall where his thesis was stored and opened the doors, expecting it to be empty. When he switched on the spotlight situated above his thesis, a figure stood silently beside his model, as if inspecting every inch and corner, assessing the quality of his work. Along with his work, it felt like Lukas’ entire being was being assessed as well, making him seemingly conscious. The other presence would not budge and Lukas was edging to start with his work.

“Excuse me, but this is my workplace and my thesis model. Is there something you need?”

The figure turned to him. Lukas was surprised to see Mathias’ arch rival from the same department, the British Arthur Kirkland, still scanning the model with keen eye. and checking every nook and cranny.

Mathias and Arthur had a long standing rivalry in the Anthropology department. 1st and 2nd respectively, both of them are the jewels of their department and the vouched for magna and suma cum laude of the entire batch. No one knew when all the competition began, but some people, even Mathias believed that it all began in the first semester of their second year when a respected Egyptologist who worked with the genius who uncovered the mystery of the building of Khufu’s pyramid came to visit the college and gave out a lecture on it as well as on various other topics. In one of the topics presented, Mathias and Arthur silently rivalled each other for the attention of the Egyptologist and in the end Mathias won a deal to be an apprentice for that year and got to work outside of the campus. Arthur apparently took the failure to heart and set upon pulling down Mathias from his presumed ‘intellectual throne.’

Of course it never happened. And he had nothing against Mathias. Until Lukas came along.

Not that it was a secret to anyone and Lukas and Mathias were quite open about their relationship. This however made Arthur treat it as blackmail material, and rightly so his weakness; something to bring Mathias down. As an effect to the cause, Lukas also became the subject of Arthur’s wrath. And while Lukas feared no one as long as Mathias was around, Arthur was enigmatic enough to send chills down his spine.

And yet here he was, alone with only a few radiation lights to keep the paint from falling off and that British in on single room.

He was starting to break into a cold sweat.

“I expected nothing less from the darling of the Idol couple of the campus. Perfect in every way possible, beauty without compare. Wonderful woodwork and careful intricate details. You really are Mathias’ fag, Bondevik.” Arthur snaked his way gracefully around the model, as if inspecting every nook and cranny.

“Who’s asking?” he moved towards the table and spread out his things. He set to work, grabbing his T-Square and calculator, checking the accuracy of his measurements. He felt the figure move closer and stand beside him, towering with the same height as he did.

“No one in particular.” He shrugged
“Listen, I have work to do. If you don’t need anything, then I suggest you leave.” He replied curtly, not removing his eyes from his work and still tinkering with his calculations. Arthur moved to the side and grabbed the doorknob. He turned to Lukas one more time with a smart grin on his face.

“It seems you have yet to learn from Mathias how to keep your pretty little mouth shut. Learn to lighten up. Then maybe you’ll learn to accept that not everything will always go according plan.” Arthur swung the door open and mumbled in a nearly inaudible sound. “You missed an equation. I guess you’re still human, huh?”

He snuffed then closed the door behind him, leaving Lukas alone in the giant hall room. The footsteps grew farther and farther and when none could be heard at all, he slammed his fists down on the wooden table. His fists ached and blood oozed on the paper, mercilessly blotting out calculations spread out on the white sheet. But it could not compare to the ridiculous stinging in his chest. What he had said, no matter how hard he tried to deny it, had hit so close to home. And he knew why. He clenched his fingers harder wishing he was holding Emil’s lifeline, slowly squeezing him dry until the color would fade from his face.

Right in the middle of the campus atrium for everyone to see.
------------------------------

Mathias got dressed and stepped out of the condominium. He wore his favorite long sleeved light blue shirt that hugged his upper body just right, emphasizing the lines of muscles and khaki pants and his shoes were a simple white Vans. Downstairs, on the way to the parking lot to grab his car, he spotted the familiar blond who looked if not exactly, alike lot like his Lukas, frantically speaking on the phone. He held the expression of annoyance and resignation and his tone spoke of much authority. He held himself in check, hoping his distress does not show in his face.

He had known Emil the moment he got involved with Lukas. While the two were never almost together, he almost always saw Emil in campus. And then it was the summer before their final year. Mathias had a hard time trying to get the Egyptian authorities grant him permission to get into the country to conduct his thesis. It was the final piece of the puzzle, and he was completely shut out.

That was when Emil came up to him with an offer he had no choice but to accept.

So long as Mathias agreed with his conditions. And as long as Lukas would not find out about it.

Emil ended his call, sighing in utter exasperation and then turned to see Mathias walking towards him. He grimaced at the look of misery on the Dane’s face. He savored the lines that wrinkled his handsome features. His fingers tingled knowing every nook and cranny. He licked his lips hungrily, enjoying every moment.

“Lover’s quarrel?”
“I do not want to talk about it, Emil.” Mathias voice was obviously strained. Emil decided not to point it out and cause a scene.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m glad I ran into you. Did you bring the books I asked?” Mathias slid his backpack off from one shoulder and opened it to retrieve a hardbound bundle of papers. Some of the papers were yellowed with age, while others seemed like new paper and even dated quite recently. The Icelander took it, his hands slightly grazing the Dane’s and did a quick scan of the contents, flipping through the leaflets. Mathias quickly withdrew his hand and Emil gave him a bemused smirk as if to mock him.

“I went ahead and grabbed a few others from the deeper archives of the library. It took a lot of effort to get the permission from the ups. I don’t know what exactly you’re looking for, though.”

While he talked, Emil scanned the indexes, browsing through words and as if he had found what he was looking for, he shut the book and raised his sights to the tall Dane with a stern look in his eyes. “This is fine. I’ll call you if I find anything of interest. In the meantime, process your papers already. We can’t put off the project any longer and graduation is fast approaching.”

“…”
“Are you seriously going to let him hold you back, Kohler?”
“That’s not what he is.”
“If you knew that much, then stop being so wishy-washy. I doubt my dear brother would even appreciate the sentiment.”

Emil made a mental note to gargle with five breath mints. The term just did not go well with him and his tastes.

“He won’t know.”
“What happens if he finds out, is what you should be worried about.” Mathias suddenly felt conscious. Not of this, but of the things he had been doing. Despite his misgivings with Emil, he was far from wrong. If anything, he’s more than right.

“Don’t get any ideas.” He said, his voice dangerously rising

Emil swatted his hand away defiantly. “You don’t hold the cards here, Kohler. I do. I get you that pass so you can do your little work. In exchange, I get your body whenever I feel like it. Therefore, you are in no position to threaten me.”

“I am aware of our deal, Emil. Just make sure you don’t lose to me first.” Mathias replied, a smug look on his face etched so clearly it made Emil want to throw up then and there.

“Hah! Is that so? Alright then, I’m glad we’re still on the same page.” Emil turned around, his back now facing Mathias as he walked out the door, and without looking back gave a small wave as he walked away. “See you around, Kohler.”

“I wish I could say the same for you, Steilsson.” he said, mumbling before heading towards the parking lot.
---------------------------------------------------

He revved up the engine, Metallica blasting through the car speakers at full volume as if he was trying to drown the sounds whirling in his head. The sun was too bright even with his glasses on. What’s more he was on his way to school. He never found himself happy cooped up in classrooms and listening to old geezers talk of outdated concepts. He’d rather spend his time travelling, experiencing for himself what was expected of him to learn. Or maybe steal Lukas from his classes, bring him home and sneak in a round or two with him and then warmly snuggle under the bed. He might get the scolding of a lifetime, and yes, he was cheesy that way, but it was the only way he could make it up to Lukas for the things he was doing now or at least the only way he thought he could make possible. He gripped the wheel, rubber crunching underneath his fingers as the road moved past him distorting space and time. His thoughts run to this morning’s event. He gripped the handle of the steering wheel in contemplation. Emil has such a lovely face. Of course, it comes not even a millimeter close to that of Lukas’ beauty and serenity, but still it had its own aesthetic value.

I wonder what he would look like all battered up and bleeding. He’s hurting us both, love. He wants to tear us apart. But someday I’ll get back at him. Just wait, I promise you. Just a little bit more, Lukas.

But not now. The game is still on.

it's herreeeeeeee! My next update for my Gimmick Game Fic. Just a heads up guys, I might have gone a little bit overboard with the scenes and all so I think you must fancy a tissue box? You guys know the drill! comment and kudos! <3

Again you’re off in a different world, where only you are satisfied,
So why do you say you love me and pretend not to know?
Today your, ‘I love you’ is rotten again
Because---(I can’t love anyone but you)
There at your nape, look, I can see your lie.

Mathias returned after a couple of minutes. Lukas had finished bathing and was on the couch, typing away at his PC, notes and leaflets strewn around him. Mathias came over and gave him a little peck on the cheek. Lukas’ hands ceased all action and faced the smiling Dane.

“Thesis? I’ll make you some coffee.”
“Ah, yeah thanks.”
“Sit tight, babe.” Mathias gave him another kiss then moved to the kitchen while the Norwegian’s eyes followed him work his way around the area of pots and pans. Lukas rarely saw Mathias in the kitchen. But on some special occasions, when he did, Lukas would admire his slender fingers as he flipped pans and spatula and whip up an amazing dinner. Of course, the main dish would always be served in bed, but food made by Mathias was always a welcome luxury.

He closed his notebooks and then walked towards the Dane who was busy making finger food. He walked up behind him and put his arms around his waist. Mathias’ hands ceased all movements and turned to the blushing Norwegian. He gave a small smile before taking him into his arms then giving him a kiss on the forehead.

“What’s with the sudden attack, babe? Though I must admit, it is quite the turn-on” he whispered. Lukas said nothing in return and instead clasped him tighter. It hadn’t been a while since they last made love, but it seemed like his back got wider and leaner. Being a soccer player, Mathias had trained his body day and night in order to get the necessary body build for the sport. Mathias chuckled. “I’ll join you in a bit, after I’m done here.” He said, kissing him on the forehead.

“Leave me alone. I’m taking a break so let me watch you while you work.”
“Well, I can’t work with a sexy Norwegian holding onto me for dear life, so how about he stands beside me instead so he can get a first class view of his equally sexy Danish lover instead?”

Now it was Lukas who let out a chuckle. “Heh. Sexy is right.” he grinned. He stood on his tiptoes and gave Mathias a quick kiss on the neck, leaving a red mark on a visible part of his neck.

Like chains snapping suddenly, Mathias swerved, taking the Norwegian by the waist then forcefully locking their lips together. Surprised, Lukas squirmed from the attack but then slowly melted into the kiss. With ease, Mathias switched their positions, laying Lukas flat on the counter and continued kissing him, occasionally letting go for breath, his hands working their way under the Norwegian’s slender body and caressing his pale skin. Lukas felt his cold hands moving under his shirt, his fingers encircling, teasing his perk nipples. He arched upward longing for more contact, internally cursing at the layers of cloth that came between them. They let go completely, gasping for breath. Lukas clung onto Mathias’ shoulder while the latter moved down to take off his pants and underwear, Lukas aiding him to hasten the process. The sound of the belt coming off and the rustling of cloth made them both more conscious as well as wanting more for the other. The Norwegian waited in anticipation, his heart thumping loudly in his chest. Then he felt the warm sloppy sensation of the Dane’s mouth engulfing his member.

Lukas moaned, begging Mathias to slow down as he grasped the Dane by his spiky blond hair. Mathias disregarded the Norwegian’s plea and instead hastened his speed. Lukas gasped, removing his hands from his lovers and bringing them to his mouth in order to stifle the dirty sounds he was making. “You seduced me first, Lukas. I would be a madman to resist you.”

Lukas was putty in Mathias’ hands. Just down there and he was already feeling so much. As always, the Dane knew what made him feel good, it was infuriating to know that all his efforts to hide the obvious pleasure from the Dane’s tongue would be futile. All he could do now was let himself drown in the ministrations and let himself reach climax while Mathias explored every inch and corner of his body, leaving not a single space untouched, permanently etching his touch so that Mathias is the only thing he’d ever feel.

Just when he thought he had full control of his climax, Mathias hovered his tongue over Lukas’ hole, tracing its shape then slowly inserted a finger, followed by his tongue. Lukas gasped at the invasion and the broken control. He could feel himself coming, try as he might to control it any longer.

“Mathias...I don’t want it here...ahh...on the counter...” he said between gasps. “...bed...please...”
“Are you close, babe?”
“N-no way...”
“You’re not so honest, are you?” Mathias gave a small flick at the tip of Lukas’ member. That was all it took to break the bonds of Lukas’ control as his vision blurred followed by the familiar warmth of semen spreading on his belly and on his face, a few amounts spilling onto the gray counter. Lukas shuddered from the release. Mathias locked lips with his lover, licking from his lips the taste of Lukas and savoring the bitter taste. “Your body certainly knows its pleasure, doesn’t it Lukas?”

“Idiot. Look at the mess you made.” he pulled a tissue from the box Mathias placed beside him and wiped off the patches from the surface. Mathias gave him a small peck on the forehead, slightly grinning.

“Isn’t that fine? The kitchen smells of you. I like it.”

Lukas then grabbed him by the collar and once again crashed his lips onto the Dane’s, locking them into another heated kiss. “Idiot Dane. Now I’m turned on. Hurry up and bring me to bed already.”

Mathias looked at him lovingly, lust growing steadily in his eyes as he lifted Lukas into his arms. “I will show no mercy. We were rudely interrupted a while ago but I’m doing my best keeping myself in check.”

“Don’t do that, please.” Lukas sat up and wound his arms around arms around Mathias and putting their foreheads close together. “Wreck me. Mark me. Do whatever you want. I belong to you.”

Mathias crashed lips with Lukas and walked briskly towards their room, the smaller one cradled in his arms princess style. Lukas felt nice to the touch. Warm like any human being but as fragile as any porcelain glass. Mathias wanted to very much turn him into a mess, make it that Lukas never let anyone touch him again. Lock him away so that his beauty was all for his to keep, to behold. But he could not do that. Not when he loves him this much.

He skillfully opened the door then threw Lukas onto the bed and ripped off the only piece of clothing that stood between him and his lover’s pale chest. He roamed his tongue on his bottom lip then proceeded to leaving marks Lukas’ neck, to which the other lustfully responded with gasps and moans. Lukas kept himself busy with the buttons on Mathias’ shirt, desperate for the extra contact. He shuddered as he felt Mathias’ hands roam his chest, making him let go of the buttons and completely ripping of the Dane’s shirt.

“A bit aggressive aren’t we?” Mathias growled.
Lukas could only nod silently, cheeks burning red under Mathias’ steely gaze.

Mathias removed his hands from the Norwegian’s side and fumbled with his pants to reveal a very much erect member.

“Now just relax, babe. I promise it will feel good in a while, so hang onto me.”
Even when I tell him to be rough, he’s still so gentle.

Is he like this too with Emil?

Like a flash of lightning cutting through the sky, Mathias entered him, filling him up slowly, then hastening his pace. Lukas wound his arms Mathias’ neck while the other held him by his waist, desperate to go deeper and hit him at the spots he knew was best.

That’s it, Mathias. Harder. Faster. Deeper. More than anyone, mark me with your scent. And then, as I overwrite my brother’s scent, remember.

Remember whom you belong to.

---------------------------------------------------

Lukas was stirred by the warm touch of the morning sun and the soft breeze that entered the small opening by the windows. He moved on his other side to avoid the ray of light reflecting in his eyes, bumping into a figure beside him. He was greeted by a naked Dane snoring soundly his head buried face down in his pillow, a trail of saliva pooling just beneath the edge of his lips. Lukas moved slowly so as not to wake Mathias, letting the smooth blanket slip down and revealing his pale and naked torso.

Last night had just been perfect, as was any other night when the Dane held him so strongly yet so gently in his arms. He reached out for his phone lying atop the nightstand, wincing at the stinging at his bottom and checked the time. It read Tuesday 6:00 am but his first majors class would not start till late this afternoon. Mathias on the other hand only had three hours left until he had to go. He swiftly got up and moved to the other side to gather up his clothes. He remained by the Dane’s bedside while putting on his clothes when he noticed a bright red mark on his nape. He tried to recall if he had left that mark over there from last night but failed. And Mathias was a little overpowering last night that all he could leave was that one lousy kiss mark from when they were down in the kitchen.

There was only one other possible person close enough to have been able to give him that mark. And Lukas did not like it.

Suddenly, he felt a violent churning in his stomach. He rushed to the bathroom, releasing everything he had eaten from yesterday down to the last drop of water into the urinal. He felt sick, disgusted and downright violated. It was not the first time he had seen such a thing. They both left marks on each other where it was visible for everyone to see, but perhaps because it was a mark he had not made, but it was Emil’s, his own brother’s, that it made him sick. It was a special mark he thought only he could have the right to leave, but Emil had taken part of that special privilege.

When the thought struck him, he felt the violent churning again.
----------------------

Eggs and sausages sizzled in the pan and the coffee maker buzzed turning the kitchen into an orchestra of the early mornings. Lukas was still half naked with only his pants to cover him allowing his chest to feel the morning breeze. He was so engrossed with his cooking as well as his own thoughts that he didn’t sense Mathias’ presence creep up to him and then kissing him. He nearly dropped the spatula and called for help when he turned around to see his lover also half naked with only his boxer shorts on, grinning like an idiot as he wrapped his arms around the Norwegian’s thin waist feeling him up.

“Good morning, babe. Don’t you smell good?” He kissed him one again on the cheek and once on Lukas’ nape.

He wanted to say something sweet in return, but held back when he remembered the kiss mark on his nape. He looked away and returned to his chore not making a sound and praying that the sizzle of the pan was enough to douse the awkward atmosphere floating about him. “Don’t be stupid. That’s the smell of oil, idiot Dane.” He said, managing the quiver in his voice.

Mathias was surprised at the sudden cold shoulder and wondered what he could have done so early in the morning. Before he could even ask, the doorbell rang cutting the silence between them. Mathias reluctantly let him go.

“I’ll get it.”
“…thanks.”

Mathias grabbed his shirt then moved towards the door and opening it to welcome a good friend of theirs from college, the Finnish Tino and his Swedish lover Berwald,

They paid their greetings and Mathias let them in.

“Lukas! We’ve come to visit.”
“Tino, Berwald. Good morning. I was just fixing up breakfast. Care to join us?” Lukas walked in with an apron tied around his waist, his upper part of the body now clothed in a gray house shirt that belonged to Mathias. In his hands, he held two plates of newly cooked breakfast, steam rising from them.

“It’s fine Lukas. We won’t be long anyway. Here are the materials I promised you!” Tino handed him a white paper bag which Lukas gratefully took as they continued talking. Mathias stared at the exchange, mostly because Lukas now seemed to have a different demeanor compared to the one he had three seconds ago. A spark of jealousy rose in him but he repressed it while reminding himself that Tino was only a friend and Lukas would never cheat on him. Not with Tino and not with anybody.

Even if he was.

“-th’as. M’th’as!”

He quickly snapped out of his reverie to the deep baritone sound of Swedish English. He turned to the taller, blond Berwald whose glasses gleamed sharply with the rays of the sun. He was wearing a white woolen sweater over a blue shirt, with the cuffs and collar sticking out. His pants were khaki in color that wrapped around his legs just right. Even in plain daylight, those blue eyes seemed as menacing as ever adding to his ever emotionless face. Mathias knew the kindred spirit in the man, other than the connection of having male lovers of course.

“I’m sorry, what?”
“Y’r m’nd ‘s fly’ng. I ‘sked ‘f you’d come with ‘s t’ uni.”
“Is it? I didn’t get enough sleep last night. Lukas was a little too irresistible last night.” He chuckles as he recalled last night’s Lukas begging him to enter and letting out moans of pleasure like it was the most natural thing in the world.

But it hadn’t even been 24 hours and he had ticked the Norwegian off again.

Berwald opened his mouth to say something but clasped them shut when Tino grabbed his arm. He shook his head in defeat instead.

“I‘ll g’ ‘nd get th’ c’r.”
“Thanks Ber.”
“I’ll see you guys out.”
Berwald left ahead while Tino went back to the kitchen to get their things and chat with Lukas for a bit while Mathias ran upstairs to retrieve the keys at the top of the drawer beside their bed. He then escorted Tino out their condominium apartment.

No one roamed the carpeted hallway except for the cleaning people in charge for that day. He led him through the lines of doors to the elevator until the basement parking. In the elevator, Tino was unusually quiet and the only sound between them was the silly elevator music. Mathias decided to ask but thought otherwise reasoning that maybe his thesis was just getting to him again. He had one question he was quite eager to ask, though.

“Say, Tino. Where were you last night?”
Tino flinched, the question catching him by surprise. “Why”
“Nothing, just thought you look this tired so early in the morning.”
“O-oh. I was out last night.”
“…alone?”

The elevator sounded and the doors swung open to the concrete basement parking. A blue Porsche was parked just few steps away from the elevator with Berwald at the wheel. The two of them stepped out of the elevator and walked to the car, Mathias opening the door for Tino. The stared at Mathias for a while as if deciding whether or not he should answer his question. Finally, he opened his mouth to speak.

“Yeah I was alone…”
Mathias’ heartbeat hastened, as he felt a heavy burden drop on his shoulders nearly making him miss the Finnish’s next words.

“…with Lukas.”
“W-What?”
“I was alone with Lukas in the library last night. He called me and asked if I could help him out with his thesis. I was here to bring some reports he had left with me. Is there something wrong, Mathias?”
“O-Oh. Okay. I see. Thanks.”
Tino chuckled a bit before entering the car and closing the door behind him. He rolled down the window and Mathias stooped down. “I never took you for someone so protective, Mathias.”
“This is Lukas we’re talking about. I have to be extra everything. Including protective.” Mathias replied, jokingly.

Tino gave him a small smile and Berwald tipped his head before rolling up the window then maneuvered them out of the parking and onto the streets, leaving Mathias alone with the rest of the parked cars.
--------------------

The ride was silent. The radio had been turned off and no amount of sunlight could bring back the life in Tino’s smile.
“Wife.”
“What have I done?”

“Tino, I have a favor to ask of you.”

“Wh’t c’ ‘ld y’u h’ve d’ne?”

“Sure! What is it?”
“If anyone asks, tell them you were with me tonight.”
“Huh? Sure, but why?”
“Please, Tino.”

Berwald said nothing and continued driving. One hand gripped the stirring wheel, absorbing all the anger he had pent up while the other held his lover’s tightly, unsuccessfully trying to coax him into holding back the tears.
---------------------

Mathias opened the door to the apartment, expecting the Norwegian eating silently at the table with the same frown on his face. Instead, he sees Lukas all dressed and ready to go, his bags and his things on the couch waiting for him while he gulped down a bottle of milk from the kitchen fridge. It struck him as odd, especially knowing that Lukas’ class wasn’t until this afternoon. The Norwegian on the other hand spoke not a single word and continued on with his routine task. The silence was deafening.

“Babe, leaving so early? Have breakfast with me. And you put so much effort into making it.” Mathias said, trying to keep his voice cheerfully in check.

“Don’t worry, I had my fill while you escorted Tino and Ber downstairs. If I feel hungry, I’ll just grab a few bites from the canteen. I have to rush to the department and get my thesis done.” The Norwegian replied, never taking his eyes off what he was doing and never even looking the Dane in the eyes and simply walked past him, letting Mathias a whiff of the snowdrop shampoo he used on him. The taller blond willed for his hand move up to grab Lukas and take him again, make it that he couldn’t leave the room today and make a total mess of him. But it seemed like he had become unable to move.

“Jeg elsker dig, Lukas” Was all he could utter softly before the door slammed shut behind him "It can't be anyone but you."

He buried his head in his hands, fully aware that the words would never reach him now and that he had lost all rights to even utter that person’s name
---------------------------
Lukas lingered at the door for a while before leaving. His heart ached. It screamed for him to burst through the door and forget all that was going on and start anew.

But he would not lose. Two could play at this game and right now, he was entering a crucial moment.

He lifted his sights to the window overlooking the campus town, cloaked by the oceanic sky.

“Jeg elsket deg, Mathias.”

I'm telling you all, this fic is already up in my AO3 account, but I completely forgot to put it here, lol. That's why I'm churning out all the Gimmick Game chapters.

This just means I won't be posting anymore chapters (unless I get some wild idea for another oneshot, but I highly doubt that. Lol) until I get part 2 done. So anyway! Here's chapter 1!

P.S. I'm not gonna lie. I was blushing the entire time I wrote it. Read away and find out why! HAHAHA
Notes: Hansa Lettol is a famous beer brand in Norway

I wonder why only I can see how filthy your fingers are
So please don’t caress my body with those dirty fingers.

“Don’t--not here, Mathias. My brother will be here soon.” he allowed a small moan to escape as the Dane slid his hand under the Icelander’s blue striped shirt, tweaking one erect nipple with his finger. Mathias simply hummed in defiance.

“I’m not kidding, stop it already.”
“Hmmm. Nope.” He removed his hands from underneath the shirt and grabbing the bottom of the shirt, pulled it upwards, revealing the pearly white well-chiseled chest of the man beneath him. He started peppering his belly with kisses, giving attention to both nipples with the use of his hand. Mathias felt something poke at his lower region. He smirked, lifting a little bit of his weight off Emil. “Besides, do you seriously wanna stop with this, babe?” With his right hand, he tweaked one of the younger man’s nipple while his left traveled downwards, pulling down the undergarment that hid the aching erection and took it in his palm caressing it gently. Emil tried to control the moans of pleasure slowly escaping his lips. He placed his hands on Mathias’ shoulders trying to push him away.

“Seriously...stop...ugh...”
Mathias ceased playing with his nipples and looked up to him, a frown on his face. “Come on, what’s the big deal?”
“My brother is coming back! We can’t let him see us like this!”

Mathias glanced at the clock. Instead climbing off of him however, he slid downwards and took Emil’s erection in his mouth. Emil let out a loud moan.

“Stupid!”
“Don’t worry. Lukas said he’ll be home late. So...” he said between sucks and licks. He removed his mouth from the dripping member and grabbed the lube in the drawer and sprinkled a generous amount in his hands.“…we have all the time in the world.” Mathias hurriedly took off the rest of his clothing. The soft sound of his belt hit the floor, along with the rustle of his pants. Emil squirmed in his position, trying to pry himself from the Dane’s hold. No matter what he did, Mathias never listened and always let his lust get in the way.

“But the door--mmph!” Mathias cut him off with a kiss as he slipped in two digits easily, earning a moan from the Icelander’s sweet lips while he scissored him slowly. Emil’s erection throbbed, but as his hand moved to help Mathias give him some release, the latter stopped him and pinned him to the bed. “No can do, babe.”

Emil looked at him with disbelief and a hint of annoyance before finally giving in. Mathias felt the other one relax and let go of him, his hands leaving a mark on Emil’s wrist. He leaned down on him and peppered Emil’s neck with kisses before whispering in his ear.

“This’ll be over in a bit. Relax.”

Before Emil could retort, he was silenced by a kiss followed by a violent thrust at his bottom as he felt himself get filled up by the Dane. Mathias released his lips and let the sweet moans of pleasure escape the Icelander’s lips.

The sheets shifted underneath them as their movements, filled with lust and longing hastened and their kisses deeper and deeper. The smell of sweat and sex along with their gasps and groans filled the room completely, seeping into the small cracks on the walls and out of the four corners of the bedroom.

Outside, the main door was shut. But another set of keys on the counter suggested someone had entered just a while ago and had heard the sounds coming from the second floor bedroom. He had thought of going up there and stopping them, but instead went for the fridge and grabbed a can of beer and took it down in one gulp.

He stood by the bar counter for a while, savoring the bitter metallic taste of the Hansa Lettol. The aroma of the beer had not been enough to douse the disgusting of smell now surrounding the room but it gave him enough sting to silence the clenching pain starting to build up again.

He held onto the beer can and decided against throwing it into their trashcan. He couldn’t leave any evidences that he had been here and Mathias would never notice one less can from the beer stock so instead he would throw it outside on his way to wherever. Maybe he should stay at the library or go to the bar Tino had recommended a few days ago.

He retrieved his keys and the things he had with him when he entered and quietly went out the door, leaving his brother and his lover to dive deeper into their lust.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It ended after quite a lot of rounds. The room had been in a mess, like a tornado had swept through. White blotches of semen had splattered in random places across the wall, on their clothes and on some of the things that were present to witness the lovemaking affair. There were items on the floor that looked more than it had participated in something other than being witnesses. It took a good while for them to clean up. The bathroom was no less different. A few minutes after getting into the tub, Mathias and Emil were at it again like rabbits in heat. It was no surprise that when they got out, Emil was sore at the bottom and the sun had already set. In its place, the bright taciturn moon hung in the middle of the sky surrounded by thousands of stars unmasked by the absence of clouds.

Downstairs was empty and there were no signs of anyone who came in and came out. Both internally let out a sigh of relief. Emil asked if he could grab a can of Hansa Lettol from the fridge. Mathias told him to indulge.

While Emil went to get beer for them both, Mathias sat on the white couch of the wide living room area of their condo apartment. He glanced at the clock and wondered where Lukas could have gone. It was way past 7. He said he would be back by this time.

He took out his phone to check for new messages.

Not even a single call.

Normally, he would’ve called or at least left a text. Not even a single memo to be found. But the place seemed to be empty and devoid of people when they left the bedroom. As he pondered upon calling Lukas, Emil called out from the kitchen.
“Aren’t you missing one can of beer in here?”

Just as Emil had ended his sentence, the hinges of the door creaked as the door swung open to reveal Lukas who had just arrived home.

“I’m back.”

Mathias felt his heart leap from his rib cage as the soft voice of the Norwegian rang in his ears, and invade his inner being, sending shivers down his spine. For a while he lost the ability to talk.

Hey Chien! Back at it again with the angst fics!
.
.
Stop.

ANYWAY! I'm back with another chaptered fic for the Hetalia Fandom. This time, I'll be borrowing the Charcters of the Nordic Five with the special appearance of England! It's a songfic, the song taken from an Arashi solo songs collection. This time, it's Gimmick Game by Ninomiya Kazunari. Lyrics translation credits to [livejournal.com profile] yarukizero. Read away and tell me what you think guys! It's my first time writing a Nordic Five thing so let me know in the comments below what you think!
On to the sumary!
-----

They've been lovers since freshmen year. 3 years have passed and everyone agrees they are the typical relationship goals. Good looking, good grades, with fantastic athletic ability. Mathias lives up as the sweet, caring and protective boyfriend to his otherwise darling and adorable, Lukas. He's lucky to have him they say.

But things aren't always picture perfect.
And any relationship would have that one flaw.

It's a story where the rules of the game is simple: Keep up the appearance. Use any gimmick, tactic, or any strategy. It's the never ending process of lying and deceit. As they say, all is fair in love and war, but prepared to lose and be hurt and to hurt.

Will you still play?

Prologue:

All the world’s a stage. And all the men and women merely players.

A printout of ‘Shakespeare’s Works’ gripped tightly by beautiful, slender fingers. A deep baritone voice carried the words into the atmosphere, drowned by the sounds of the clatter of the students’ feet along the cobblestone walk of the large diamond quad. The early afternoon sun gave the trees the impression of artists painting the ground with patches of sunlight that swayed from time to time with the pick-ups and the die-downs of the wind. There were sounds of gay chatter and occasional complaints on the workload and the barely audible sounds of the school’s orchestra playing Giuseppe Verde’s Va Pensiero at the third floor Music Room. From far away came the faint clanking of railroad tracks and honking horns over at the expressway followed by loud hotel construction materials. His eyes were focused on the printout, I had parked my sights on the large marble building that was the University Building. Two people sat on a bench, under the warm glow of the afternoon sun, small amounts of light hitting their skin, as they read out from the printout. Gradually, their hands are brought together, clasped in a hold. Cobalt blue eyes stared deeply into crystal blue and saw the deep Hornindalsvatnet. The distance between them decreased, yet their was the rapid beating in their chest.

The serene chorus of Va Pensiero rang out in harmony as the shadows of the leaves attempted to hide the fateful kiss. The passing students ignored the conspicuous display of affection as if it were not a sight to behold and continued on with their gay chattering or looking ever intently in their lecture notes.

Lips locked together. Eyes closed, savoring every moment as the wind started to once again pick up, just barely lifting the leaflets of paper still held tightly by the Dane’s hands. The kiss breaks as the winds billowed sending the papers flying to the sky. The Dane quickly got up from the bench and scrambled to collect the leaflets strewn on the quad grounds. The Norwegian that accompanied him stayed seated at the bench watching intently as the Dane picked up the leaflets one by one, chasing after the ones that evaded his hand. The sky had turned gray with clouds. Droplets of rain began falling slowly at first then it became a full fledged rain. The Dane ran back to his companion and took his hand. They quickly ran across the quad and onto the white university building for shelter. The Norwegian’s left hand gripped the Dane’s right . On his other, he held the now soggy printouts from Lit Class, ink dripping, spreading throughout the white sheet, blurring the words. It was cold and the wind was as fierce as ever. But the hand that held him, dragged him to shelter and continued to hold him throughout the night was warm.

The game had begun.

Anyway, gimme comments on this guys This'll be like the first time I try my hand out writing Haikyuu so I tried my best. //shakes// I'm in your care again! <3 credits to [livejournal.com profile] yarukizero' livejournal for the song translation. Thank you for your hardwork in translating, dear :)

Chasing after the tall clouds, we raced up a long hill
Leaving the city behind, I wonder how far we’ll go.
If we go over the top of it, the wind should change
What kind of color was it? Let’s pass the time together

Every time your long hair sways, my eyes glance towards you
When we realized it, the scattered grains of light had started changing into a rainbows

--------------------------------
There was a rustle of grass beneath our feet as we sprinted towards the top of Shinzen High’s Heartbreak Hill for our penalty sprint. For the nth time today, we, the Karasuno Volleyball Club, had lost yet another practice match against one of Tokyo’s power schools and thus was subjected to a lap of uphill sprint before we start our next match. As I neared the top of the hill, a figure relatively shorter than me made his way past me and had reached the top. He stood above me, for once looking taller and more authoritative than he originally is. His tall orange spiky hair swayed to the direction of the wind, and his eyes filled with the same look of glee every time he and I had successfully landed a ball inside the opponent’s court. I reached the top a few seconds after, the rest of the team close behind.

“Hah! Too slow, Kageyama!” he said with a mocking tone. “This gives me the first win of the day! Bleeeeh!”

“Shut up, dumbass.” I retorted with a smack to his head.
“Sore loser. Heh. “ He flashes me the usual smile and suddenly I’m weak in the knees followed by the painful clenching in my chest and then the sudden urge to touch him. I feel my hand, consciously or the other, start to bring itself to Hinata’s face when he runs behind me to play around with the seniors. I am suddenly aware of that hand that had nearly betrayed my emotion.

Again, he’s playing with my emotions and as I falter at even the smallest gestures of kindness and unintended friendship, I find myself slowly breaking out of the isolating cell I’ve made inside of me and coming towards the lightly painted scenery where he stood, his hand held out, calling me in the endearing term, ‘partner’. The wind had changed its direction to the east, blowing with it fallen leaves from the very few trees that stood shading us from the grueling heat of the sun. My eyes followed him as he made folly with the rest of the team before heading back down for the next round of games. I felt a hand gently pat me on my back. I turn to see our 3rd year setter, Senior Sugawara give me a complacent smile before sprinting downhill and back inside the volleyball gym.
From the bottom of the hill his voice echoed silently in a sing-song way that uttering my name seemed a broken melody, masking the loud thuds in my chest.“Kageyama!”

“What, dumbass?” I returned, miraculously managing the quiver in my voice.
“Gimme a toss!”

The wind subsided and drifting parts of the wind left itself hanging on the side of my shoulders as I am engulfed in a world, fully aware of the lightly painted illusion where all that remained was me and him, our heartbeats in sync. There I stood, motionless, as if my body had surrendered itself to the sweet allure until the strong voice of our captain ordering us to return inside to prepare for the next match shattered the scenery and I return to the distinct sounds of honking horns and the clanking of railroad tracks amidst the chirping of the birds and rustling of leaves. I stared at the spot where he stood, now empty. Hinata had gone back in ahead. I followed suit while drowning in the guilty and rueful thoughts that I could ever be a part of that beautiful illusion.

--------------------------------------
Because you’re here, love love love. Keep goin’ on
Everything is overflowing with a million colors
As I get to know you (Alright) I learn about sides of you (Oh yeah)
That I didn’t know Love, love, love you from the bottom of my heart
I wanna give you love
I wanna give you love.

-------------------------------------
Whack. The round gas inflated rubber object flew in the air and was coming down quickly to the other side of the net. The shuffling of feet as the players got into position to defend their territory and to keep the ball up in the air. A hubbub of voices shouting for cover and signals for the ball on their side overpowered the squeaking sounds of rubber soles skidding against the shiny mahogany floor of the volleyball gym. Despite the clamor of noises on all four courts, I could see nothing but darkness and the movements of my team mates as well as my own as we shuffled, keeping the ball in the air and blocking any spikes from the team. I could hear nothing but the fast paced thudding in my chest as I waited.

“Kageyama, we leave it to you!” Captain Daichi’s yell seemed to come a good ways from me, even more than I’m usually accustomed to. However, I heard it knew what it meant.

The ball was coming.

I quickly moved to my setting stance, somewhere a bit in the middle of the net as my eyes followed the movement of the ball now rapidly coming down on my hands now prepared to toss. There was a sudden rush of adrenaline, blood coursing violently through my veins and a great ache in the back of my consciousness now starting to recall the time where there was nobody around to receive my toss. There was a slight shiver, a sort of hesitation in my hands considering a dump, despite knowing the futility of that move. We were losing, and I couldn’t afford to lose another point, despite this being just a practice match. The right thing to do was to toss it to someone, anyone and pray that the block would not be enough to stop the attack.

But what if no one was there to receive it?

Gimme a toss, Kageyama!

The darkness in which the scene replayed itself quickly vanished along with the sound of Hinata’s rubber soles leaving the floor as he positioned himself at the top of the net, ready to receive my toss and guarantee us a point. My muscles throbbed underneath my flesh in reaction to the ball hitting my palm as I sent it flying to Hinata’s direction. From my rear view, I could see a two blockers ready to shut out Hinata’s attack. I hold my breath, awaiting for the loud thud that comes from the ball landing.

The ball stopped exactly where I had wanted it to and with a full swing of his arm, Hinata sent the ball straight down to the left corner and then landing, bottom first as the whistle blows, calling IN, earning us a one point lead.

From our side came the rapid-fire shouts of glee and simultaneous ecstatic hurrahs and words of praise from the entire team. Watching from the benches, Coach Ukai gave us his own shouts of cheer as we returned to our positions and prepared for our round of service. Hinata came up to me and gave me a strong whack on the back and went on ahead. As I looked at him from behind, my chest swelled From it,sprouted the unknown feelings that never seem to go away no matter how hard I tried to bottle it up. Maybe it was me getting cocky. Most probably it was the feeling of competence, that someone was now finally able to return the tosses. And maybe it was comfort in the knowledge that the rift I had created long before I arrived in Karasuno would cease to exist. Was I silently being cheered upon from the shadows, like a mother who looked to her child, wishing that one day the bonds he created would send a million colors flying towards the heavens creating the lightly colored scenery he had so desperately wanted to be a part of?

“Gimme another, Kageyama! We’re on fire today!”
“Yeah!”

His sing-song voice traveled from across the court and rang in my ears, sending tremors down my spine. I put up a face to conceal the obvious red spreading to the tip of my ears. How dare he be cocky when he can’t even defend during mid-air battles. And yet he was, along with his simplistic attitude of looking forward instead of dwelling on the things that should have been, garnering strength from weakness. Everyday is a relentless battle to keep up with him and thus the struggle to remain above him continues.

This isn’t middle school anymore!
I’ll stand with you, on the same court!
I’ll be the one to beat you!

Time and again, he would proclaim to me his noble desire to put me into place despite knowing the limitations of his abilities; constantly remind me that middle school is far behind us, that we are a team, that we are ‘partners’. That day, I saw nothing except for the ball and myself upon my throne dressed in regal purple but nonetheless devoid of my followers. That scene replayed itself on numerous occasions. And when it did, the numbness I felt that day accompanied by the cold gush of isolation would begin to swallow me up until his voice picked me up again, prompting me not to wallow in my own sorry existence. And then I’m riled up all over again. He’s not just stupid, he’s a fool.

Nevertheless, believing in him, letting him walk with me; letting my heart waver at every sight, touch and sound, doesn’t that make me thrice the bigger fool?

Tired from playing, your smiling face was dyed in the twilight
We’d been running around like little kids
Even if the magic fades as the sun starts to set
We’ll never forget the memories of the dreams we had

------------------------------
The sun shines gently down on you drying your tears
The words we’d drawn in the sand will disappear too. We entrust our wishes to the approaching waves

There was a great big sigh of relief when the coaches called it a day, telling us to go wash off and have dinner. At the call of dinner, Senior Tanaka, one of our second year regulars as well as wing spikers, Senior Nishinoya, our regular second year libero, and Hinata bounded happily out the door and dashed towards the men’s bathroom with Senior Bokuto, a senior ace player of Fukurodani and Lev, a giant first year middle blocker from Nekoma following closely behind in an attempt to get to dinner first. I stayed behind with the rest to help clean up.

The cleanup went by quickly so by the time I could no longer control the growling in my stomach, I excused myself and left for the bathroom to wash up before heading off to dinner.

On my way there, I spotted Hinata standing at the top of Heartbreak Hill under the timely shade of the tree. The sun had started to set and the sky was letting off an orange glow like giant flames randomly shooting in all directions. As the wind started to pick up, I realized that my feet had taken a detour towards the hill, unconsciously drawn by the unusually serene figure standing alone his eyes fixed on the still strong glow of the setting sun. I stood beside him facing the same direction yet he did not move or flinch and simply allowed my company. For a while he stood, until his legs gave out and took a seat and reclined on the green grass. I followed his movements then locked our eyes with each other. I remained standing, taking in his entire figure. He was slim, with slender legs and his arms extended wide while his fingers added the extra width. As expected though, he wasn’t all that tall. His face was thin and pointed at the chin and the smile he wore made his smile seem to reach the back of his head. His deep orange eyes were the color of the flames of sky, but much brighter, like the sky was the misprint of it.

There was stillness and silence between us, as if the clock of time moved slowly. It was a silence that neither one of us wanted to end, like being together like this seemed like the most normal thing in the world.

“I thought you had gone ahead with the rest to dinner.” I said breaking the precious silence.
He gave a small chuckle. “I finished up quickly to catch this. It has a soothing effect on you.”

As if you could ever be calmed. Not you of all people.

Suddenly, a tear formed in the corner of his left eye. Startled, I knelt down as my hand, the same hand that had moved to touch him the morning, brought itself to the tears now constantly streaming down his face. He swatted my hand away and covered his face with his. He silently sobbed as I sat there unaware of what to do. This was something he had never done in front of me before and it was something I never expected nor wished to see. I thought my heart would stop if his tears would not cease flowing. So it was a sight of relief when it did. I touched a finger to the bottom of his eye and then cupped one side of his face. His eyes grew wide and as the flesh in my palm felt him shudder, I quickly withdrew my hand, blushing. He sat up and I looked away, afraid of what he might say. I tried to explain myself but spoke only obscure words.

My hand had betrayed me. My heart was beating wildly in my chest, blood flowed rapidly through my veins and my mind was blank, devoid of all reason. Suddenly, life left me and traversed to a parallel dimension, losing all grip on reality as Hinata looked at me with expecting eyes. I had taken a bold move and it seemed like it wasn’t the time for that.

Yet my hand moved on it’s own. And betrayed me of it’s own will, knowing I had been holding back for so long.
----------------------------------------
Together with you Love love love, If we could stay here like this
It seems like the hands of the clock will come to a stop
Next to your side (Alright) I can’t hide anything from you (Oh yeah)
Because you’re here, Love love love you more than anyone

----------------------------------------
“S-sorry, just now. I wasn’t...uhm...” I managed to get out.

My hand betrayed me.

“Hey, did it feel nice? Kageyama?” He spoke to me softly, but with the same cheerfulness. “Holding my face, I mean.”

“W-what?”
“I mean, this is just probably me but I’ve been noticing you trying to reach out to me nowadays. I figured you wanted to touch me. But I never understood why. I guess I was right, huh?” he spoke rapidly, but I could hear literally nothing, like my hears had subconsciously blocked out all the sounds, muffling these and making them almost indistinguishable from gibberish.

Time seemed to stop as I took in the words that came out of him, my brain’s gears started to move as I had realized the gravity of the situation. His eyes remained parked on me, as if studying me like an experimental mouse waiting for a chemical reaction.

I shuddered as it began to sink in that all my hard work trying to mask my feelings, pretending I could care less about the overwhelming pain in my chest every time I had the urge to touch him, had all been for nothing as he had known all along the many chances I had and thus the many chances I let slip by. I knew I had to get out of this situation somehow.

The heavens must have heard my plea when Captain Daichi with his strong tone of reproof, echoed through the now dark skies. He reminded us that there was a meeting in a few in the club’s room. I sprang quickly like a jack in a box and scrambled down the hill as fast as I could in hopes that my long legs would put a great distance between us.

Since we got back to the rest house, I had spent nearly every minute trying to avoid him. I made sure he wasn’t in the bathroom when I’d be in, or I’d avoid times where it would just be me and him. We had the meeting then we prepared for bed. When we were assigned bedrooms, I hadn’t been the least ecstatic about it after finding out that Hinata and I slept in different rooms. It was an incomprehensible feeling of frustration.

For the first time since training camp started, I have never been so happy to be in separate rooms.

Tonight, I took the liberty of going to bed early, hoping to get up early to catch the last Tokyo sunrise I would experience knowing full well how busy we would be once we get back home. Everyone else had gone to the open baths where they were, for sure fooling around with the other teams we had been practicing with. Once, I had wondered how everyone seemed to get along just fine despite knowing what we were to be once we step outside the training camp and onto the real court. We would be enemies fighting for a spot in the national tournament. Senior Bokuto would most likely be his usual goofy self during the real thing, but when it came down to it, he would be ready to crush our puny team and guarantee that spot for their team as is expected of the Ace of Fukurodani. I’m pretty sure Captain Daichi would have done the same.

Somehow, the idea of having a connection with these amazing teams off-court made me feel relief, mysterious as it may seem.

As I was walking to the room with cold coffee in hand, I thought I saw Hinata in his hapi coat, walk out the main door of the rest house. It was dark and the clock read 8 in the evening. I had thought he was off to get something for those still in the bath. I ignored it and continued walking down the hallway while admiring the beautifully tended garden with its ponds glistening with the light gleam of the crescent moon, the taciturn satellite moving slowly across the sky, the wind once again blowing strong while the bonsais that stood upon tall stools scattered around the small courtyard leaned to the direction where it blew, the leaves dancing up and down. I got back to my room which was unsurprisingly empty, sat down on my futon and in my bag rummaged for the book I had brought for the trip and buried myself in it and in the warmth of the futon. Only a few minutes had passed when the wooden door slip open revealing Senior Tanaka dressed in a bath robe with a hand towel swung over his shoulders. He looked like he had just gotten out of the bath however his eyes portrayed a sort of panic. I put down the book and asked him what he needed.

“Huh? Hinata isn’t here, either? Shouldn’t he be back by now?”
I cocked my head in question. “I saw him walk out of the rest house a few minutes ago. I thought he went to buy snacks for everyone.”

“Oh, well you see, one topic in the bath had been about out schools and he got curious about what the Tokyo boys’ schools looked like. Said he wanted to go visit them tonight before we leave tomorrow. Senior Kuroo promised to tour him someday but it was Senior Bokuto who quickly handed him a map to Fukurodani, saying the school was just close by. Once he got the piece of paper, he washed off and dashed out the bath. We told him to come back early, or Captain was gonna kick his ass for sure. That idiot’s so gonna get it for sure.”

Senior Tanaka let out a guffaw, but I wasn’t amused. I check my watch and it read 9:00. It had been a good 1 hour after I last saw him out the door.

Without another word, I threw back the covers and dashed past a confused Senior Tanaka. I struggled against the restricting cloth of the hapi while the wooden floorboards responded to my agitated steps with its own creaking sounds. My breath hastened as I went underneath the door frame and out into the dark streets of Tokyo. All the while, my mind screamed nothing else but Hinata. Where was he right now? How far had he gone? How farther is he gonna go? Amidst all my thoughts, I realized I too had no idea where I was going. All I knew was I could leave no stone unturned until I find him.

It was at a park, that I found him lying atop a small mound of grass and looking up the sky, still as a log as if death had come to claim him. Meanwhile my breathing was ragged, and my legs were tired and sore from all the running. Nevertheless, the instant I had let go of a sigh of relief, all the pain and obviously the worry seemed to have vanished into thin air. I walked up towards the mound and stood directly above him, blocking his view of the stars overhead.
-------------------------
Everlasting summer days A summer dream for just the two of us
Everlasting summer days In my eyes is a sun that won’t set
Everlasting summer days Like this, we’ll never say goodbye
Everlasting summer days They’re shining

----------------------------
“You had us all worried, dumbass.”
“Sorry. I got lost.”
“Getiing lost like that proves you’re a dumbass after all.”
“What’d you say!?” he jerked upwards, obviously irritated. I set myself beside him, ignoring his snide remarks. “And what about you huh? You don’t know the way back either do you!”

I gave him the usual smug face with a shrug of confidence. “Unlike some dumbass who got lost, I happen to have a good sense of direction.” I chided, emphasizing the ‘dumbass’. I had riled him up once again by calling him dumbass.

But it was a good thing, I thought. As I was the only who ever called him that. It was my special name to mark him as my own. I had become silent, choosing not to rebut against him and instead poured all my attention in the vast sky. He must have realized I was not going to be speaking for a while and thus returned to his vertical position. His eyes and ears once more directed to the melody of the night. Thousands of white spots decorated the sky with their unique twinkle, like a chorus in the midsummer. It was a clear night sky. There was no longer the sounds of car horns and train tracks but the sound of babes in deep sleep as the bird of night had come out to greet the moon now glowing brightly overhead in place of the once burning sun who had gone to sleep. The crickets sang their mating song as the nearby creek gurgled like a baby who had let out his first laugh. The playground was deserted except for us but the squeaking swing indicated a presence had been here before I arrived.

My mind flies back to the afternoon’s event. It had only been for a while, maybe even just a second, but I had pressed my palm against his smooth, soft skin. The sensation of having to touch him was as great was the excitement that with holding the ball, maybe even better. Just the thought of it made me shiver despite the heat slowly spreading throughout my entire body. I had thought of apologizing once again about my unsightly behavior when Hinata beat me to it.

“About this afternoon, it freaked me out a bit that I was right in my observations. But it doesn’t mean I hate it. If anything, I was little happy I got it right.”
I grunted. “Do you even know what you’re saying, Hinata? How can you even be happy about that? It makes me look like a complete pervert.”
“No it doesn’t.” he replied quickly and without hesitation. “It just shows that you want to depend on me. I have Natsuki you know so I have that older brother air around me. So go ahead and touch me all you want, Kageyama!”

The last of restraints finally snapped with those words. My mind knew it wasn’t what it was supposed to mean. But my heart screamed so otherwise. As I felt the same hand that betrayed my emotions lift itself from the ground, pulling Hinata closer by the back of his neck and crashing our lips together, all logic and reason had escaped me.

True enough, it was a shot in the dark. It was a mere peck. There hadn’t even been any tongue. However the very act was enough to send shivers down my spine was I felt his cold chapped lips collide with mine.

It was a mere second, a brush of the lips. But the moment seemed to continue. It replayed in my mind like a broken record that still played so well despite having to play for so long. As we sat together, just silently looking at each other. The sound of crickets and the hooting of the owl reverberated around us. I became aware of the hands that still held his beautiful face between them and the sound of the still loudly beating heart within my chest near to explosion.

None of us said a word. It was as if words were not not to enough to explain what had happened; the words were the last thing we needed; that words would begin to describe the feeling of euphoria.

Instead, we both let out little laughs. We both had tears in our eyes as Hinata and I brought our foreheads together, closing the any gap that had remained between us as the warmth of our smiles gently engulfed us in a never ending summer dream.

Comment or message or gimme at least 25 kudos if you think I gotta do what I'm planning.

Also, despite me saying I'm happy how this turned out, I still have much to learn and I can only learn if I receive structured comments about my work. Imagine yourself as my prof and me the lagging student in class. Critique my work as harshly as you can and I will respond to that to the best of my abilities.

To those who have read this far and to those who gave it a try and are thinking of giving my work a try, all the same, you are all beautiful beings. Don't forget that //*wink*// So much love to you all!

I think I've said enough. NOW! Onto the Chapter! <3

“Oi!?” The loud yet muffled squeal of Lovino’s outcry made the others downstairs swivel their heads towards the direction of Lovino’s floor.

“Haha! Man, that Lovino sure can yell! Yeah! Here’s to New Year, Lovino!”
“Liz, shouldn’t we go check on them?” The Austrian turned to the Hungarian with an obvious look of concern. Elizabeth, who was engrossed in her drink, didn’t seem to mind.

“Leave them alone, Roderich. They’re probably patching things up over there.” she said before taking another sip of her beer. Roderich stared at her in question. What was there to patch about? He thought. His eyes move away from the girl and returned them to the Italian’s floor, deciding whether to go up there or not when a heavy tug from the Prussian brought him straight to the dance by the town square.

Back inside the apartment, the hallways and rooms were empty except for the two misplaced gentlemen on floor 2. “Dammit, Tonio. Have you forgotten how heavy you are?” he grunts. “This would be so much easier if you had just moved your damn garden in the ACTUAL garden.” More grunting sounds escaped the young man’s lips as he moved the Spaniard towards the end of the hallways, continuously mumbling at how the Spaniard always caused trouble for him.

The gap between their rooms had widened a little bit over the past year due to a few malfunctioning wires and drainage pipes in Antonio’s room. When the techs came over to check them out, they found field gerbils and a few eggs all over the place. All eyes turned to Antonio’s mini garden out on his balcony. While it was a mystery as to how those creatures had entered the water stream, management had decided to move Antonio to a place insusceptible to any entrance of any other creatures. As a result, the once 'two-room gap' between the two widened to an 'end of the hallway' gap and the techs changed the course of the water pipes so the water flowing to the different rooms wouldn’t have a trace of the foreign creatures. The garden stayed as it was impossible to move all that dirt to so Antonio would still be around the old room to tend to his ‘piccolovini’ or “little Lovino’s. Lovino blew a fuse after finding out why he called them that way until he just got used to the idea of round juicy red tomatoes being named after him and (in Italian no less).

They reached Antonio’s room and Lovino started feeling the former’s pockets for his room keys. When he realized it wasn’t in any of his pockets, he decided to go upstairs and grab the spare keys from the administrator’s office but stops when he sees a faint light coming from the small crack between the door and the door frame. Lovino sighed at the usual blunder of Antonio forgetting to even close the door of his own room. He pushed the door open and moved the heavy Spaniard safely inside before closing the door behind him. He grumbled first in complete disbelief at the Spaniard’s weird taste for interior decoration then shakes his head and tells himself to think about the incapacitated Spaniard at his feet.

The layout of the apartment rooms were all relatively the same for every room so it didn’t take long for Lovino to locate the bedroom where he literally just threw the Spaniard in. Even that didn’t get him to wake up. Lovino then set to prepare the things to clean Antonio up. Despite being the blunderhead he always was, he seemed prepared for emergency cases like this, which of course made it easier for Lovino to get everything done.1 While in the middle of making soup, footsteps were heard coming from the bedroom which meant the Spaniard had roused from his sleep.

“Don’t come near me, bastard. I might burn you or something.” he said, not looking up from the pot of bubbling soup.
“Is that my Lovi?” Antonio replied in a dazed tone. “Is this a dream? Lovi’s cooking for me, I’m so happy~!” Without a sound, arms engulfed the Italian from behind. Lovino paid it no heed and continued silently stirring the bright red soup. Antonio’s face fell. He held the shorter man tighter and buried his face on one of his shoulders. “Hey Lovi. Talk to me.” he said in tone already inaudible.

Silence.

“Scold me. Be annoyed with me.” the gurgling of the liquid was all he heard in return. “Please don’t be mad at me.” Antonio’s voice was quivering now. “I won’t leave tomato juice whenever I want. I’ll ask you first. I don’t like you not talking to me, Lovi. Not you.”

Lovino remained indifferent to the taller man. This Antonio felt and slowly let him go. Lovino, after a few seconds, broke the silence by telling him to go grab a seat. Antonio humbly obeyed. After a while, Lovino joined him at the table with a tray of steaming hot tomato soup and a cup of brewed coffee.

“It’s hot. You might burn your tongue so blow, okay?”
“S-si.”

Lovino hung his head and said nothing. All that was heard between them was the flow of water from the faucet and the clanking of plates and stainless steel. He took off the apron and proceeded to leave the Spaniard’s room.

“Get more sleep okay?” he said without making eye contact with Antonio. “I’ll take a picture of the fireworks or something if that’ll make you happy. See you around, bastard.”

He had already gotten a hold of the knob when another hand was on top of his. “O-Oi...” his voice quivered to a point where it was a miracle he had gotten those words out of him. Antonio’s other hand kept the door in place by pushing it outwards, making it impossible for the Italian to open the door. “What do you think you’re doing, bastard?” Lovino tried to push the Spaniard back, but it was no use. It was like the Spaniard had latched his whole weight upon the door.

“Won’t you stay, Lovi? It’s so lonely being alone on New Year’s Eve.” Antonio whimpered in a tone as if he was begging. He lowered his hands to his sides and shut his eyes while we stood in wait for the sound of the door opening and shutting at his face, forever separating him from the Italian. “I’m sorry. Don’t mind it. You can go. H-Happy...New Year.”

This isn’t going too well for me, Lovi. Leave before you see the un-Antonio side of me.

“What is this, bastard?” Lovino said in a small tone, his eyes looking down at his feet.

Antonio hesitantly raised a hand and held him by the chin, lifting Lovino’s gaze back to him.“Look at me, Lovi. You’re so cute when you’re shy.” he brought his hands to Lovino’s cheek and caressed it. One of his fingers hovered under his eye. “You have such beautiful eyes, mi amor."

“Stop calling me that.” the heat from Antonio’s touch was unbearable despite the sharp cold of December.

He rested his head on the shorter man’s shoulder.“You’re not struggling anymore, Lovi. I’m glad.” I’m glad you stayed.
“Shut up.”
“Hey, can we stay like this for a bit?”
“Can’t we at least sit on the couch? I had to carry you all the way here.”
“You could have just brought me to your room.”
“Shut up. I panicked.”
Antonio chuckled. “Okay let’s sit on the couch.”

Without letting go of his hand, Antonio went into the kitchen and took out a wine bottle. Lovino stared at the Spaniard who was clumsily cutting the cheese with only one hand. He breathed a deep sigh. “Let me go.”

“What? But you said...!”
“I won’t run away. So cut the cheese with both hands, will you? I’ll pour the wine for us.”
Antonio looked at him, conflicted at what to do. “You promise you won’t run away?”
“I promise.”

Antonio let him go in surrender. Only after his hand was released did he realize how tight Antonio had held him.

“Lovi?”
He snapped out of his reverie and came into contact with those dazzling emerald eyes. “Right. The wine.” he moved to the cupboard and grabbed the nearest wine glasses he could find. While he worked, he could feel the Spaniard’s eyes follow him making him red to the tip of his ears.
“...you’re not leaving?”
“Do you want me to?” He had meant it as a joke but at this, Antonio was quick to grab him again, making Lovino nearly spill the wine over the counter.

“Oh what the--”
“Please don’t! Don’t go Lovi!”

All desire to tell off the Spaniard vanished just like that. He relaxed in the hold then patted the other's arms. “Relax, bastard. I won’t. Now get back to the cheese. Go on.”

“O-okay. Gracias, Lovi.” he said with a smile. Lovino tried to return it with even just the sliver of a smile, but for some reason, it just wouldn’t come to him. He just went back to preparing.

After getting their snacks ready, they moved the couch to a spot near the window to an angle that would give them the best view of the fireworks then they sat in silence while ‘cuddling’ which was just Lovino wrapped around one arm of Antonio as they sipped from the wine and cheese.

Lights played outside the window and the loud boom of the speakers was loud enough to break the windows. However, the silence that enveloped the room was more than enough to drown out the sounds from the outside. One could just hear everything as an individual sound. The giggles of the children, beeping horns and obnoxious singing. The sound of two heartbeats; they all came together as if one melody to create the perfect New Year orchestra. It wasn’t all as muddled as it used to be compared to the time when Lovino would be alone in his own room, mulling over whether he should go visit the family then deciding to leave it for another year when he was brave enough to face them. Back then, it was a chaotic silence. Silent, yes, but very chaotic, as if the voices in his head would break the silence every now and then, causing him to retreat further into a world he thought would keep him away from it. When it started, he could not tell. Looking back, it was most probably the reason why he ran away or at least he thought it would end if he ran away.

But we can never run away from the silence that devours us all. Pushing it aside seemed like a more viable option but running? Futile.

The sudden movement of Antonio caused him to return to the real world. He looked at the Spaniard whose face was painted with a huge grin directed at him. “Wh-what the hell are you looking at, bastardo?
Antonio huffed. “Nothing.” He held Lovino closer and rested his head on the smaller man. “I just thought I’d finally gotten to you.”

“The fuck is that?”
“D’awww. Don’t say that, Lovi. I had to go through great pains just to have you like this. Don’t ruin the moment for me.”

Lovino smirked. “Yeah okay. Whatever.” he said then returned to looking outside the window where he could see the others still out drinking at the far left, just a few steps away from the doorstep. He took his glass and took a sip.

“They’re having fun, why did you---”
Lo siento, mi amor.
“What’s this now?”
“You’ve heard something you should not have.”

It didn’t take him long to realize what he was talking about. Lovino wisely said nothing and continued sipping from his wine glass and munching on a few cheese bits.

“Liz told me to explain to you. But now I don’t know how to start. Funny, even though I had always been the talkative one between the two of us, suddenly I’m the one at a loss for words.” Antonio gave out a small huff.

For someone Lovino had always seen as an easy-going person and seemed not to have a single care in the world, to see this side of Antonio in the quiet boom of the night, it seemed like he neither knew this person or was simply floating in a dream. Lovino still wouldn’t say anything, so Antonio continued.

“I’ve been dreading that call, you know. I knew it would come, and it wouldn’t come at a moment’s notice. And when it would, I’d have readied my bags and left. Even before a second call could come in. Sorry, the air got a little heavier. Say something, Lovi. The usual.”

“You’re making me sound like the bad guy here.” Lovi said sulkily. Antonio chuckled at the response.

Au contraire, mi amor.
“Only a cold-hearted beast would put Spanish and French in one sentence.”
“Then warm me up, Lovi?”
“Continue already.”
“Alright. Now where was I? Oh yes.” he held the Italian closer and buried his cheek in the brown ruffled hair of the smaller man then sighed. “Things don’t always go as planned for me. I was supposed to run my family. I was to marry big-chested Ukrainian. Or was she Belgian? I saw her picture you know. Blondie. Your type, Lovi. I’d like you to meet her someday. Anyway, things were supposed to go that way. Then I’d hold the vineyard in the palm of my hands. Have healthy kids. And die with a heck load of money in the bank, I could feed the world’s homeless and even build a home for each one. However, aside from feeding the homeless, I wanted none of that. So I ran. I moved from place to place, and every time I was found I’d run again. Until I came here. Luckily, Liz was someone I knew from childhood and had been closer to her than anyone in my family. So she offered to put me up here and with Roderich, she created this homely place. Hey Lovi, ask me what Liz was to me.”

“What was she to you?”
“A childhood friend. A supposed fiancee who, like me, had enough of that scene and ran. But unlike me, she was brave enough to stand against what was expected of her. And she just vanished from their lives. Roderich was someone she was seeing at the time. But things got a little weird. But that’s a different story altogether.”

“Well, this explains a lot.” Lovino had had a third glass and was starting to feel drowsy. His head tilted a bit to the side and Antonio had caught it. “Sorry. Keep going.”

“Just a little bit more, mi amor." he gave him a mischievious wink before continuing. "Well, she said I could hang here for a bit and she made sure to keep my family’s dogs away from me. Can you believe it? Even after renouncing her family, she kept hold of the benefits it gave her and used it to hide me. It’s been going on for the past 3? 4? It’s been so long, I can hardly tell anymore. But the same condition couldn’t stay for too long could it? And I knew I had to leave sooner or later so I made it a pact to myself never to involve myself in things that would keep me from leaving. Like, maybe...” he slid a hand to Lovino’s chin and with great care locked their eyes together. Antonio gently smiled, his emerald eyes filled with the same sadness Lovino always heard from his playing that cold November night. “...falling in love with someone.”

Lovino’s cheeks reddened all the way to the tip of his ears. Antonio gave a small laugh as he pushed some hair away from the Italian’s amber eyes. “I miscalculated Lovi when I saw you coming home from work one day. You know those Spanish soaps with all the ‘I should have stayed away’ kind of plot? I thought it would never happen in real life because really, what connection does reality have with something out of the imagination? So when you opened your door to me that day, something imagined had become real. You were always something out of a painting for me, Lovi. Even when you felt like nobody wanted you, it took all my willpower to keep me from pushing you down and taking you then and there.”

While he talked, Antonio cupped Lovino’s face with his free hand ever so gently, caressing the sides of his face every now and then as if to leave a mark of his touch on the Italian as well as impart on himself the feel of what it was like to hold his face. “Eyes are the mirror to our souls, right Lovi? But for me, it was like and endless guesswork of what you saw with these eyes. I wanted you to see me, but I didn’t want you to see all of what made me. Otherwise, I...”

Antonio’s hands fell to the couch, their eyes no longer in contact. Lovino squirmed in his seat at the sudden loss of contact, as if he had grown accustomed to the touch. He gazed at Antonio drinking from his glass, eyes glowing with a different light. “...Otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to leave me?”

Antonio turned to him slowly, the look in his eyes making the answer ever so clear. For the first time that night, in the darkness that surrounded them, Lovino truly saw him as what he had always tried to hide: Defenseless, unsure, and afraid. Who was this Antonio in front of him? Hey tomato bastard, don’t give me that look, he thought. What’s with all the drama? I bet you’re gonna go all ‘Got you again, Lovi~! Now let’s drink the night away!’ You’re not the helpless one here. I am. Unconsciously, Lovino raised his hand, touching the Spaniard’s left cheek. Antonio held Lovino’s hand and buried himself into it, kissing the palm in short intervals.

Te amo, mi Lovinito. Mi amor. Mi corazon. Te amo.” He was silently crying and yet the smile he always wore never left his face. Lovino held his head in the palm of his hands and moved closer, pressing their foreheads together. “Idiota. This night was supposed to be fun.”

“You saw what was coming, don’t lie.”
“Can’t say I couldn’t.”
“See?”

Silence followed but not one broke the hold, like each other needed the sensation of another human being. “Listen, you’re not wrong for wanting to leave so go.”

“But...! Antonio’s head jerked upwards.
“I’m not leaving. I promised you, didn’t I? Italians, we keep our promises. That’s why...”

Lovino gently caressed the Spaniard’s face. As how Antonio had moved a few hair strands from his eyes, Lovino did too to reveal the beautiful emerald green eyes. On impulse, Lovino slowly brought his lips towards the Spaniard’s, locking them both in a kiss. When the Spaniard returned the kiss, it wasn’t forceful or anything, Lovino thought. It was rather gentle, childish if he were to describe it. There was no tongue, no biting. Nothing. Just that, it was a little sad, like a child feeling love for the first time as if he had been deprived of it all his life but was now sharing a sort of love he never knew he had exactly because. Little by little, Lovino melted into it. He closed his eyes to the world and felt his arms wound themselves around the Spaniard’s neck. The faint bittersweet taste of the soup was still there along with the lingering aftertaste of what was supposedly alcohol. The strong scent of earth enveloped them both. Antonio broke the kiss, heavily breathing and in need for air. Their eyes are on each other, lust growing steadily in them. Lovino broke the eye contact and looked away, his ears red to the tips.

“Damn it, Lovi. This makes it even harder to leave.” the Spanish said in between breaths.
“Show me, Antonio. What do you see with your eyes?”
“Are you sure?” Antonio’s thumb hovers over the Italian’s bottom lip.
“Yes.”

Outside, the fireworks had begun to fly to the air, coloring the night sky. People yelled with glee, horns honked even louder and beer mugs clanked with one another.
Lovino and Antonio remained inside the apartment, with each other, letting the wine do its work.

The next morning, the sun was out to greet the first day of the New Year. Lovino opened his eyes to familiar surroundings. It must’ve have been 10 in the morning from the feel of the heat of the sun shining on him. He looked around. It was his room. It was the same bed. It was the same window and view he looked out from every day. Next to him, on his nightstand was a tray with a single glass bottle of red liquid, flashing as bright as a ruby in the late morning light.

He took it from the tray held it in his hands just as tears started dripping onto the transparent glass. He held it close to him, quivering as if to contain the sudden overflow of emotion.

No, it just wasn’t the same anymore. Nothing would be.

Alone in a room he was not supposed to be in, he shed his first New Year’s tears while calling out a name that seemed to come from a distant past.

Your face
Lovely as the rose in your hair
The passion in your eyes
Fills me with the songs of love

So tell me when will I know.
How can you tell?
When love is near
For I love you so
Un baile del corazon.

{New Year’s Eve}

Like any other year, the city was brightly decorated with tons of paraphernalia. Over the air hung the feeling of beginning and the end of something everyone would one day look back to and laugh at the days of folly. For others, it was the start of adulthood. Drinks are out, disco music blasting in speakers. Christmas lights still remained in the plaza and along with the sounds of clanking glasses and cheery laughs echoed the sounds of the church bells signaling the start of the first Eucharistic celebration of the year. Fireplaces were a lot warmer as family members gathered around it to hear of stories from the wise grandma from just across the street all while they sit in wait for the colorful flashes of chemicals to light up the sky. For the apartment, New Year meant the rest of the day were spent actively planning for the night of the celebration of the coming of the new year. Most of those that had left on Christmas for vacation had returned just to witness the spectacular display of fireworks which was to be released on the exact hour of 12 midnight from the city hall. It was an annual tradition those in the building for them to have a sort of party of their own while the rest of the city were out on the streets having their own disco.

In the midst of this, Lovino sat by his room window, alone and just gazing at the stars above. From below his window, outside of the apartment building, he sees the cheery bunch from his apartment, laughing and lolly-gagging on jokes and having a good time. Lovino looked away and continued staring aimlessly toward the skies. Whether he’d admit it or not, he had been looking forward to tonight as it would be his first together with all of them not to mention he hadn’t been that alone as he was before. And at least for once, since that time, he would feel that he wasn’t genuinely alone. He would go down there if there was nothing to stop him, for among the group chattering outside was the tomato bastard being his usual bastardly sunshine shit self. He had neither the courage nor the mood to talk to him let alone make eye contact with him. He was frustrated at having the capacity to get mad over something so petty. Heck, it wasn’t even something to be mad about. His eyebrows scrunched to form a V-shape as the questions flow. Why was he really affected by the whole thing? Normally, you’d just shrug it off and wait for the other to open to you right? Why was it bothering him so much to the point that he actually broke his promise to Liz to go to this party? It was ruining all his plans to actually mingle with people, not that he really wanted to, but it was just that he made the same promise to Liz at some point to at least make some friends. He shouldn’t be up here sulking. He should be down there drinking the night away then waking up the next morning, naked and wasted by the side of the road along with the others who occupied the building. He stood up and strode toward his bedroom and grabbed the nearest trousers he could find and starting dressing in it. He combed his hair, made himself look attractive and took out from the fridge the meal he had made for himself to eat during the fireworks display. After making sure he had unplugged everything, he grabbed his keys and strode towards the door. Little did he know of the surprise that awaited him at the foot of his door.

Toni’s POV

Hi there~! It’s me, Toni! As of the moment, I’m with friends from the building I’m living in. I forgot the name of out apartment, but I still would like you to know something about it. First off, it’s here in Italy. And although I’m Spanish for some reason, I could understand what everyone was saying here. Plus they’re all nice and they make good pizza and spaghetti with lots and lots of tomatoes~. Oh. How I love tomatoes. They’re red and delicious and juicy and healthy. AND RED! The same color as one of the colors on my country’s flag. Oh back to the apartment. Sorry, I chatter a lot and usually tend to stray from the topic. I actually have this very close friend of mine who lives in the same building. His name is Gilbert. He’s German. Actually, he says he’s Prussian but I still don’t understand the difference between German and Prussian as they are one and the same country. Or are they. He lives on the fifth floor. Or is it the fourth floor? I don’t really know what floor since it’s technically the fourth floor but for some reason the floors skipped from 3rd to 5th floor. Kiku, a Japanese who lives on the second floor, same as me, told me that the number 4 was an unlucky number along with 3, and 13, but I really don’t know. Wait, I’m talking about other things again. The apartment has 4 floors with all the occupants. The fifth floor is the home of the owners, an Austro-Hungarian couple. A weird bunch they are. The husband, an Austrian named Roderich Edelstein has that air of nobility and he plays the piano very well too while his wife, Elizabeth Hedevary, or what we call her as Liz or Eliza is a Hungarian with an iron fist to match that of any male’s own. Unbeknownst to everyone, this apartment was created for a certain reason. But that’s not for me to tell now is it? The rest of the rooms are for the occupants. One thing about it is that the occupants are all from different countries. What are the odds, si? There is one from France, my friend Francis the cook with his boyfriend from Great Britain, Arthur Kirkland and their kids Alfred and Matthew who were both adopted from different countries as well. The way those two got together is really interesting and quite the drama. Even I had to admit, their romance was a lot more dramatic than all the Spanish soaps I used to watch back at home, and that was a lot, I tell you. Oh! And there is this very VERY good friend of mine, Lovino!

Ayayay Lovinito~ mi corazon. He is a blessing in disguise.

It was a funny scene how the two of us met thought I’ve known he’s been living here since...well since he got here. I know what time he comes home from work and what he does in his free time (which was mostly staring out his balcony window). I’d always wonder about him whenever he’d come out the balcony, I would secretly stare at him from inside my bedroom. He’d always look so beautiful with the hot Italian sun draped all over him in the early mornings as he sipped from his cup and when the moon shone on him, he looked like something out of a painting. Like an angel that had been mistaken for a mere human. He looked so pure and innocent, his eyes shone brighter than the stars. Sabo, sabo. I sound like a stalker and that the words I have used to describe him may sound overused and cliche. But the loss of words is only normal of a man who could not use mere words to express his profound beauty. Before I knew it, he was more than just a neighbor. He was my unattainable dream, so close yet so far away. I tried many times to capture his attention. Timing his arrival in the apartment with my guitar playing, I even went so far as to deliberately hide in his room when Arthur came running to me when I could run to just about anyone else’s room. But I had no other option as I was tired of merely watching from my window. Oh, how I recall the time I finally saw him face to face. I lost the words I’ve always wanted to say. He was even more beautiful up close. I’ve heard him talking to Eliza before and I noted how pretty his voice sounded. So manly and yet so gentle with a sort of sadness. When I sat shaking at one corner of his room, I listened to the sweet tone of his English mixed with a touch of Italian. It was like a song of the early morning birds in sweet Sta. Anna. I could’ve sworn I could see the land from where I was born. It was that beautiful. So when we were alone, I could hardly contain myself and jumped from behind. In the many days that were to come, I become fondly attached to him. “I want to hear him talk more.” was what I thought was the reason I remained so close. But my feelings were not so easily deceived as I found myself falling for the young hot-blooded South Italian. He charmed me without even realizing it. His occasional lapses and stutters whenever I called him ‘cute’ and how he’d blow a fuse and turn completely red whenever I called him ‘Lovi.’ Every morning, during work days, I would lie in wait in front of my door to happily greet him with a hug even if I knew he was there to criticize me for the bottle of tomato juice I made for him to bring to the office. I also knew how every time I’d hug him, I’d leave a bit of my fresh-farm scent so he had this bottle of perfume ready if anyone asked him what perfume he was wearing. Sometimes I wish he’d say he was hugged for me, though. Ao that everyone from his workplace knew how much I treasured him and that he wasn’t the distant person everyone thought he was. I noticed this long before that he’d come home alone. Isn’t it normal for a person to be brought home by friends? I thought it was because they had parted somewhere along the way, but when Liz told me the story of how he felt left out by his family, I began to understand what he really wanted. Thus, I had put it upon myself to make him feel that the rest of the world may have rejected him, but I happen to be here ready to be his shoulder. I was there for the friendship. Who knew I would be asking for more?

So when he started to distance himself from me, I thought I had done something wrong. Once, I tried to talk to him, but he quickly turned around and dashed for his bedroom door. Then this other time, I bumped into him coincidentally while talking to Eliza. My face literally lit up with joy. But that quickly fell when he kept talking to Liz but paid absolutely no attention to me. It’s been haunting me for a while and the one person I was sure knew why wouldn’t even tell me. It’s always been this way. Always me being the last one to know, being given the “it’s for your own good” reason. Well, I was done with it.

I’m sick and tired of it. For once, I don’t want to be the Antonio everyone thought I was.

“Hey, Toni! Drink up, man! It’s the eve of the new year and you’re celebrating it with the awesome ME!” Strong arms were around me and the smell of root beer pierced my nostrils. Gilbert the ‘Awesome’ Prussian or so he calls himself, readily handed over to me a full glass of sparkling, bubbling root beer as he laughed at the gags that the other apartment dwellers were doing. He turns to me half panting from all the laughing. “Jeez Toni, what’s with all the gloom? You know I can’t stand gloom.”

“Lo siento, amigo.” I took glass he had offered me and chugged all the contents in one shot. Once I was done, the others clapped and cheered at my “manly” act. “Hand me the next batch, Gil~! It’s the season to be wasted!”

“Yeah! That’s the spirit! Here have some of this bad boy. This comes all the way from my motherland. Drink up, my friend.” he offers me another glass, and I take it, chugging down more root beer until all I could see was swirling and darkness.

{One week to New Year’s}

I’m having a serious case of deja vu here, Lovino thought as he blankly stared at Antonio who was quivering in one corner of his apartment room. His attention turns to the loud tapping of the door and loud British curses of “gourmet cowardly lot!” Lovino simply sighs and opens the door to the unsurprisingly sweaty Briton.

“I know he’s in there.”

“He is.”

“Bring him out, then.”

He looks inside for a bit as if pretending to talk to Antonio who had fled the kitchen for the bathroom. He then turns back to the Brit. “He says he doesn’t want to die yet. Not in the hands of your cooking at least.” he teased complete with a giant smirk through his face.

“What did you say, wanker!? I’ll have you know I am Arthur Kirkland of the Great British Empire! You should be honored I bring you my very own cooking!”

“Yeah. And I’m Lovino Vargas, the Italian who lives in 221B Baker Street.”

“Benedict Cumberbatch is a hot down to earth Briton. He most certainly is not of the likes of you, you bloody impostor!” Loud footsteps came from the end of the hallway. Towards them, blond hair gracefully whisked in the air as Francis ran towards their direction with Roderich falling behind.

“Really, mon amour, you must stop this game of hide and seek with me. It’s getting tiring trying to get out of bed with my little son dangling between my legs while you make a mess in the kitchen then just run off like that.” Francis said between breaths. “Ah bonjour, mon cher. I am truly sorry for this early morning ruckus. I did not expect mon amour to have this sudden burst of...erm...inspiration. I will see to it that he gives a warning before knocking on anybody else’s doors.”

From behind Lovino, Antonio’s head popped out, all smiles to the French and the heavily panting landlord. His face twists into fright at the sight of the little (haha) Briton glaring at him while he held the casserole bowl in his hands. One second after, all hell breaks loose and before Lovino could even do anything, his whole room became a labyrinth of fallen pots, pans and overturned chairs and tables. He gaped at the horrific scene of the Spaniard and the Briton’s game of cat and mouse, Antonio grabbing on anything to swing to and Arthur, miraculously being given spider abilities to counter those.

More running and Lovino decided to leave the room and visit Liz’s room while the two settle their “differences”. He headed for the fourth floor. Upon climbing the stairs, he could hear sounds in the hallway distinctly female, and definitely Liz’s.

Perfect timing, he thought. He could ask the landlady to let him chill for a bit in the admin’s office. But who was she talking to? Her voice was all he heard so she was probably on the phone. He took a few more steps, stopping somewhat close to the top of the stairs and leaned back on the wall to wait until Liz finished her phone call. The call was taking longer than he expected and his feet were starting to feel sore from all the standing and he figured the phone call was going to last a lot longer when the tone of her voice suddenly rose.

Thinking he should just crash in Kiku’s room for a bit, he turned to leave when he heard Liz mention Antonio.

Could he have just been imagining it?

He crept a little closer to get a better hearing. “But Herman, why does it have to be him? He made it very clear that he wants nothing to do with his grandfather or the Ville. I intend to honor Tonio’s wishes and Roderich thinks so too.”

His grandfather? What’s with his grandfather?

“Herman. You can’t let him do something he doesn’t want to do. He will keep on running away and you will bring out money to find him and you find him and he’ll keep running away. Don’t you think it’s better to let him be rather than letting him carry the burden he feels to be the Carriedo blood?”

Carriedo? Is that his last name? What’s with Carriedo? Come to think of it, all he knew Antonio by was Antonio and, as the idiot would always insist, plain Toni. From the beginning, that was how Antonio had introduced himself, and Lovino had thought nothing of it before so he had not bothered to even ask. He'd known he was from Spain, but that country was a bit too big. He knew he likes tomatoes and plays the guitar, but know nothing of how he learned. He doesn't know even know what the Spanish does for a living. In other words, he was friends with yet a total stranger.

But now it egged him: Who was Antonio?

“I get it. I’ll talk it over with Roderich...no...he has to know. He took up the responsibility for watching over him as his own had failed to do so.” another silence ensued. Lovino was only listening, but he could tell her voice was anxious, if anything concerned besides outraged. “I won’t take no for an answer, Herman. You know very well out of everyone in your family what your little brother is, and I am sure you are not in much agreement as you are claiming.”

A small beep followed by a sigh echoed through the corridor which told Lovino the call had just ended. He waited as the footsteps seemed to be getting farther and farther away until the slam of the door was all that was left and the sound of heavy breathing. He then bounded down the stairs to his floor and headed for Kiku’s room instead.

{4 Days to New Year’s Eve}

"Lovino, dear! Please pass the salt. Lovino?”

“Huh? What? Oh right, the salt. Uhmmm...”

“In your hand.” Lovino's cheeks redden as he handed her the salt shaker then returned to mincing. It’s four days to New Year’s Eve and Liz had decided to hold a party to celebrate it. They decided just like for Christmas to each bring their own dishes, which was what Lovino and Liz were just busying themselves with. They were whipping up something of a mix of Hungarian and Italian in the administration’s office, or as it was, Liz and Roderich’s home kitchen, as a joint effort on their part since. Lovino had offered the idea to Liz one afternoon during his precious and rare day-off. He had meant for it to be like a ‘thank you’ gesture after she and Roderich had so patiently dealt with him this whole time as well as to get his mind off things: about Toni, how frustrated he was at knowing only next to nothing about the Spanish and because he needed some excuse to get some air away from his “friend”. And since Roderich was sure to be busy drinking with Gilbert that night, fact at which Lovino nearly choked his own drink, Liz gleefully took him up on his offer.

“WHAT? YOU’RE NOT REALLY MARRIED?!”

“He never put the ring on. No one would try investing in an apartment where the landlord was bisexual, right? That’s society nowadays. And the circumstances were a little complicated, but that’s another story altogether.”

“If you put it that way...”

“Shall we get preparing for our dish?”

“Of course.”

Which brings us back to the present situation.

After a while of preparation and mincing and everything in between, Lovino’s mind began to wander off again, of course thinking about Antonio and his incompetence at making friends with him. He tried to whip up a cheerful conversation with Liz but it would always revert to talking about how annoying Antonio on one particular day. Each time he would start to speak his name, Lovino would go silent. He’d go back to cutting every once and a while he would look up to glance out the window of the fourth floor office which overlooked the garden of the compound where he saw some of the boarders getting some sun. On one side was Antonio with Francis and Gilbert laughing and talking. There would be a clenching pain so Lovino would go back to working. He’d wondered not once but more times than he could count why he was so affected. To be worried about something so petty was so unlike him. So what if he knew little about Antonio? It’s not as if they were l-l-lo...PARTNERS. They weren’t partners...or anything like that.

So. Why?

“Lovino! Lovino!”

Lovino snapped out of his reverie and his eyes catch on a burning meat on a pan. “CAZZO!” he cursed as he tried to quickly put out the flames by grabbing the nearest fire extinguisher. After the flame had gone, he threw the extinguisher to the floor. “Fuck! What is wrong with me today!?”

“Lovino, dear. You’ve been acting strange since you got here.”

“Look at this horrible excuse for Italian cuisine. I put shame to the Italian race.” he threw the pan and the burnt meat in the sink then slumped on the floor. “This is all his fault.” he muttered in voice audible only to him. He then quickly stood up, taking off his apron an placing it on the nearest flat surface.

“Lovino?! Where are you going?”

“Sorry Liz, I don’t feel so well.” he strode out the door, closing it with a bang. He headed downstairs, his face contorted in anger. He was glad not a lot of people were out of their rooms as they were too busy dealing with their own dishes. He was not noticing the heavenly smells coming from the small slits of the rooms he passed through. All he wanted was just to get back to his room. Along the other end of the hallway, Antonio was just going back to his room after playing a bit too much with the the young Alfred when he spotted Lovino walking towards him in a rather striding manner. His face lit up and raised his hand to give the Italian a wave but hesitated when he detected something other than the usual grouch of the younger male.

“Lovi?” Without stopping, if anything frowning, Lovino swept past the older male towards his room. Antonio’s eyes followed the Italian until he entered the room, still wondering what had happened to his Lovi when he hears the sounds of footsteps echoed from the other end of the hall.

“Hey Lizzie~”

“...Antonio.”

“What’s wrong, Eliza?” Lovino slept through the day until nighttime when it brought along the chilly cold of December. He blinked a few times to make sense of where he was and why it was cold. It took a few seconds for him to realize that his window had been opened and the fire burned out by the patches of snow that entered through the open window. Quickly he threw back the covers and proceeded to putting on the fire then closing the window.

“For I love you so.”

The sweet sound of a Spanish serenade sounded from outside which made Lovino stop and for a while forget the cold still creeping inside his bedroom, slowly putting out the fire. As if he was hypnotized, Lovino slowly moved his feet forward and out in the open, when the strong gush of cold wind stopped him in his tracks, simultaneously closing the window shutters, once again letting the dark envelop the Italian.

“Un baile del corazon.”

Enough. You don’t know what you’re saying.

Lovino held his head in his hands and for the first time in a long time, cold tears fell from his eyes.

(Took a few while to get it up. I wanted to have it posted around Sunday but I was getting settled in my dorm and the net was also crappy the other day. Thank goodness I got this up today. Anyway, here's part 2, my lovelieees~ <3 )

Your smile.
A kiss from the morning sun
Like whispers in the breeze
Words of love and mystery

After that, they never talked again and Lovino was back to living his solitary life and going on with his life.

Or at least that’s what our protagonist had hoped.

Right after that incident, Lovino woke up one day to the sound sizzling in the kitchen and the smell of tortillas filled the room. Concerned his kitchen had turned into a giant mess with clutter all over his beautiful floor, he flops out of bed and bounds for the kitchen where he sees and tanned man in a white apron and humming a lively tune whilst playing with condiments and a pan. Lovino gapes at the scene for a while before fully registering the tomato bastard in HIS kitchen.

“Bastard, what are you doing in my room!? At 6 in the morning!?” he yanked the spatula from the other’s hand, surprising Antonio and looking his way.

“Good morning, Lovi! I made you breakfast!” he grinned then plopped a piece of tortilla into the Italian’s mouth, taking him by surprise. Red, he downs the crunchy and flavourful(less) tortilla.
“GET. OUT. What?”

Antonio turns to switch the stove then pushing Lovino a bit to the side, grabs utensils and puts them on the table.

“Breakfast.” he said with a gleam in his eyes. “You’re going to need it if you’ll be doing anything productive today, si?”

Lovino stared at the table as if he had never seen it that beautiful. The utensils have been arranged in a Russian Style table arrangement with the exception of wine glasses and goblets and the napkin folded in a bird’s wing. There was a white cloth draped all over the round table. The utensils used were of cheap quality but for some reason, they gleamed with the rays of the sun hitting them. In the midst of this, Antonio stood by the side, still wearing his waist apron and holding a makeshift tray carrying steaming hot chocolate, bread, biscuits and pineapple juice: Italian breakfast? You gotta admit, the boy knew the twists behind the restaurant. Did he used to work in a restaurant he wonders?

Despite the fact that the stupid tomato bastard completely barged in without his knowing.

Lovino smirked. “Nice try. What do you want from me now?”
“I just wanted to make you breakfast.”
“Uh-huh.”
“Oh how silly of me.” Antonio gasped then put down the tray and ‘escorted’ Lovino to his seat, pulling his seat back for him. He then placed the food in front of the still amused and completely surprised Italian. “A man must act like a gentleman at all times and provide the best for his muse...”
“I am NOT your muse.”
“...therefore, I offer unto you, my MUSE, a big feast of tomatoes!”
“Que?”
“Everything on the menu is tomato! Except for the juice. That’s pineapple. Remember I told you, I’d give you tomatoes in exchange for everything that happened yesterday.”
“I expected a single tomato. Not the whole package.”
“Please just take it. “

Antonio simply smiled. Lovino looked away. He couldn’t be swayed now, no matter how friendly or how kindly Antonio was treating him so far. After all, he could probably doing this as a neighbor.

Lovino sighed and took the knife and started working his way through the bread. “I’ll let this one pass by.”
“Yay~!”

From then on, it wasn’t just breakfast.

For something beyond him, Lovino had become accustomed to expecting breakfast made by the Spaniard. If not in bed, it’d be another one of Antonio’s flashy breakfasts; with table arrangements that did not match what he had made. Often times, there would be no breakfast and Lovino would have to cook for himself, but while he’d be dining, a knock on the door now either meant, the morning paper or Antonio leaving tomato juice at his doorstep. Of course the Spaniard would’ve fled by the time Lovino had opened the door, and the unpredictability made it difficult to catch him in the act so Lovino would take the treat, finish off his morning routing then bound to the other’s room where he would be carrying a long speech of not leaving things at his doorstep. However, the preparations to mercilessly scold him for such would vanish the moment he would be enveloped in the fresh scent of newly tilled soil and vegetables as he is wrapped in the bed haired Spanish’s arms. Good mornings and cussing, rejecting Antonio’s pleas to come and sleep with him for a little bit then Lovino leaves for work. At work, his colleagues would notice Antonio’s scent on Lovino and would ask how he smelled like a mix of fresh barn and nature. How could Lovino possibly say it was from a warm hugging tomato bastard? For the sake of it, he had a perfume bottle with water then tell them he’d gotten his hands on decent parfum. If they bought it then good but for how long though.

The road back to the apartment was the same as always Same train station, bus stop. Same cobblestone roads and busy restaurants and cars parked at their same space the day before. He’d be walking alone of course. It was still cold and this he had to endure for he had left his car back in his family home. For the next two months, nothing much changed in his scenery until a cheery voice from above would call out to him gently.

“Lovi!” Antonio would shout from his balcony stopping Lovino just before he’d inserted the key in the keyhole. Lovino would look up to Antonio waving and smiling in his usual white V-neck shirt and brown khaki shorts, his figure against the moonlit starry sky He’s holding a guitar in one hand as he greets the newly arrived Lovino.”Welcome home!”

“Shut up, bastard. People are asleep.” then he’d enter the apartment building, climb up the flights of stairs all the while silently listening to the echo of Antonio strumming away at his guitar while trying to calm down the fast beating of his heart.

It was definitely a good change. At the thought, he froze.

Stop it, he mumbled to himself as he arrived at the door his apartment room. You can’t possibly be letting him in, are you Vargas? Trust is not something you were blessed with the moment you were born and friendship is a luxury you will never attain, no matter how much you dream. You break, not mend remember?

But was it too late?
Lovino shakes off the thought. Maybe this was temporary. If he talked it over with Antonio, he could probably get his act back together. Just a little talk to end whatever feelings could brewing in him, or hopefully not in both of them. But not now. Antonio might not want to hear any of it, and it’s not something to talk about before Christmas starts. But that was fine for Lovino.

After all, they have all the time in world.

Fire burning deep into my soul.
With your body close to mine.
I promise you the moon and stars
So tell me what should I say
How can I show you all that I feel?

A year of tranquil living and lively neighbors with a side of tomato dishes and running from nuclear kitchen bombs ensued. And before they all knew it, it was that Christmas time of the year again. Last year’s Christmas festivities went off without a hitch. And just like last year a party was held, as was the tradition, a hot pot party. A few of the borders were not present but left their own dishes before leaving. Francis and Arthur along with their sons, Alfred and Matthew went off for a vacation to London. Ivan, the Russian who lived in one of the rooms at the top floor also went to visit his family in the Motherland. Those that remained were Roderich and Elizaveta, the landlord and his wife. Gilbert, surprisingly stayed in the apartment. According to him, his little brother, Ludwig was off being all lovey-dovey with his lover back in Germany. Supposedly staying was an act of sulking. A few other people whom Lovino was not acquainted with, including a pair of siblings from Switzerland, third floor occupants, a Polish male who was definitely not male, according to Lovino who also lived on the third floor and a silent Japanese named Kiku who lived right next to Lovino. To the surprise of everyone who came was Lovino, who had not usually joined in the festivities, did so too this time around. But only because he was dragged along by the Tomato Bastard.

Right before taking a warm bath with hot choco in hand.

It looked like a comical skit to anyone who had witnessed it. The idiota simply barged in on Lovino (no surprise there) as he was taking off his boxer shorts, shouting gleefully that there was a party downstairs. Before Lovino could even refute, he was yanked by the arm, still half naked and dragged downstairs. Antonio was scolded right after he realized that Lovino was still in his boxer shorts and offered to accompany Lovino back upstairs. The latter knew he need not accompanying, but he could not say no when it was the former who was offering.

Curse his inability to say no to the bastard.

So for the first time in the long while he had been living there, he had attended something with people he lived with under the same roof but never found the time nor the courage to talk to.

It’s not so bad being with these people, he thought. He turned to his side as he watched the Spanish laugh himself out to a gag by Felix, the Polish. I guess it’s all thanks to him, huh.

“Lovi?”
Lovino jerks. “W-What?”
“You’ve been looking at me for a while now. Is there something on my face?”

Shit, he noticed!

“It’s nothing. You just happened to have bed hair.”
“Oh, thank you Lovi~!” he grinned at the other then proceeded to fixing his ‘bed hair’ then mumbling, “I don’t remember going to sleep though.”

“Don’t be so happy over something so little, idiot.” Lovino grunts and goes back to his drink, looking away to hide the obvious the red spreading through his face.
After the drinks and the exchange of gifts, the group decided to call it a night and moved to disperse and save their energy for the upcoming New Year’s Party. Lovino too starts to leave, slung over his shoulder the disposed Antonio who was obviously too drunk to even walk.

The bastard is heavy. No wonder he could pull me down easily.

His load suddenly became a lot lighter when the opposite unsupported side suddenly raised itself up. Eyeing Antonio’s other shoulder, he sees sweet Ms. Hedevary supporting him.

“Ms. Hedevary!”
“Oh, call me ‘Liz’ darling. We’re all friends here. I see you need help.”
“Grazie, bella.” Lovino gives a small smile in gratitude which was generously returned.

The two carry the Spanish to his room and tucks him to bed then leaves quickly.

“Thank you again, Liz. I never thought he could be that heavy.”
“With all those tomatoes? I doubt he could be anything but heavy”
“I guess so. Would you like to come over for a little tea? I believe you only had water to drink?”
“Oh, that would be wonderful, thank you Lovino.”

They stride towards Lovino’s room. While Liz got comfortable, Lovino got the stove starting and the tea boiling. Once the water had boiled, Lovino poured generous amounts in their teacups then joined Liz who was standing by the couch, eyeing the very few photographs Lovino owned.

“My family back in countryside Italy.” Lovino started after putting down the tray filled with plates of biscuits and their cups of tea. “The one standing beside me is my twin, mi fratellino, Feliciano.”
“You two look so alike. You even have the same curl.” she giggled at the black and white photograph of Lovino and his brother standing in by a hedge, Lovino looking away from the camera wearing a wide blush and his brother with the biggest grin that reach from the edge of his lips to the lower tip of his ear.

“Oh, thank you. It smells heavenly.” she says as she reaches for a cup.

“And we’re both flirtatious. I figured it runs in the Vargas family, if there is such a thing. It’s chamomile. I hope you don’t mind.”
Liz takes a sip and sighs. “It’s delightful.” she takes another sip then turns to Lovino, to whom she gives a small smile

“Thank you, Lovino. This was such a wonderful Christmas. “
Lovino raises a brow in question. “You think so?”
“Well for one, the building has never been this rowdy. Suddenly seeing our boarders interacting and having fun with each other. Having Christmas parties, birthday celebrations and many more, I just feel blessed this time around.”

“There have been a lot of parties even before this one. “
“But not as special as this one. For once, it felt like a genuine Christmas. A shame it is that many of you were unable to come this Christmas time, but I look forward to more celebrations like tonight. I hope I see you in all those celebrations Lovino.”

“I’ll see what I can do. I don’t want to have to run from the abomination that is Eyebrows’ cooking.” he snorts.

Liz was suddenly quiet as she tapped on her teacup, a serious face washed over her.
“Liz?”
“You’ve become friends with Antonio too. I’m glad for that.”
“Hah. More like I’m his babysitter. That kid can’t even stand two seconds without bumping into things.”
“Good. Please continue to be friends with him. He might need you more than ever in the future, and I believe you are the only who will ever be qualified enough to be his shoulder.”

Lovino knew better than to say anything. How could he ever be the support anyone needed when he couldn’t even support himself? But Liz looked at him with so much conviction and confidence that he decided to give a small nod in understanding. Liz once again smiles. She then puts down her half empty teacup and stands to leave. Lovino follows suit, but Liz tells him to remain seated and she will see herself out.

She bids him once more a good night then closes the door behind her leaving Lovino to a deafening silence.

This is another of my song fanfics. This time, I bring you Un Baile del Corazon or Dance of the Heart by Stephen Bishop, played by Spain x Romano. I've always said we interpret songs in some different ways and when I heard te lyrics of the song, I felt great pain. Which brought me to write about my muses once again. So, while readng do have Un Baile del Corazon playing on the radio. I suggest a good glass of wine, some cheese and biscuits, low lights preferably a candelabra and the music on a low and soothing volume. Enjoy! Love lots!

Night. . .falling from heaven above the sound of a guitar.
Drifting through the moonlit sky
Your face
Lovely as the rose in your hair
The passion in your eyes Fills me with the songs of love.

Monday night. The cold crisp of the Italian November bit his skin underneath the Armani down jacket and striped cotton scarf. While walking home from the station, Lovino cursed to himself as he thought of his warm gloves sitting on his cubicle desk. He had been in too much of a hurry to rearrange his desk and somehow must have dropped them while he furiously scanned his messy workplace for his bag. He wheezed from the cold and quickly rubbed his hands together to gather at least a little heat then put them in the side pockets of his jacket.

He turns right leading to a narrow road lined with tall buildings, most of them apartments with a few cars parked in front of them and a few small-scale restaurants. He waves to a few women with regard to his flirtatious nature and turns another right entering another narrow space and located his tall, orange 4-storey apartment. No one was walking around much save for an old man and his dog standing by a car. In the middle of all the cold, there was much warmth from inside the buildings from the fireplace. Lovino walked faster, desperate as well for the warmth of his own fireplace. He stopped at the main door and started searching for his keys. He finds them in the pocket of his faded jeans then he inserts the key in the keyhole. The knob turns and he starts to step in when a soft sound of strumming was heard from above him.

Lovino’s eyes catches a figure sitting out in the open balcony on what seemed to be a wooden rocking chair in just a white over-sized t-shirt, brown khaki pants and slippers. He was singing a soft melody that fit well with the strumming on his guitar Int the cold, dark moonlit night, Lovino felt a sense of warmth and safety, yet a sense of sadness and longing. He lingered for a bit longer outside his apartment, building, silently listening to the stranger’s rich voice and wistful playing until the cold once again bites on his fingertips, numbing them, telling him to save the listening for some other time.

Once inside his apartment room, Lovino could still hear the music playing as if it were closer than he thought. Leaning outside his window, he sees the same figure about two windows from his own. The playing stopped as the head swivels to his direction. Lovino quickly withdraws from the window, his heart beating faster than it normally did. He set up the fireplace after a hot bath and sits on his reclining chair with a book and hot choco in hand, while he listened more to the soulful music that cold November night.

So tell me when will I know
How can you tell
When love is near
Oh I love you so.
Un baile del corazon

Saturdays are always Lovino’s leisure times wherein he could forget work for a while or at least for half a day before he goes back to work at 11 which is simply preparing for Sunday chores. Today’s Saturday starts off the usual. He wakes up at 6 half naked at the top. He would locate his robe then stride towards the kitchen and would brew for himself hot coffee then he whips up his usual Italian breakfast: Lasagna and garlic bread with a side of tomatoes. While that’s cooking, the doorbell would sound and he would open it to greet Ms. Hedevary, his landlord’s wife, a good morning and retrieve from her the usual morning newspaper. He sets the paper down on the circular dining table and along with his coffee and reads while basking himself in the little sunshine that passes through his window. The oven rings telling Lovino his baked lasagna is done and ready to invade his taste buds. He quickly retrieves the lasagna bowl and a few utensils and resumes reading the paper while he munched on glorious Italian food. Of course, it’s not as good as the lasagna is brother used to make but he was pretty much satisfied that it tasted nearly as good.

Yes. Today was as good as any Saturday.
Then his thoughts fly to that cold Monday night.

He hasn’t heard him play for a while. It’s been two weeks since then and he’s only ever heard him, aside from that Monday, was Thursday of that same week but only briefly when the gurgling sound of French resounded from the other building, halting his playing. Just when Lovino was starting to feel it.

Other than that, it seemed as if he had ceased to play altogether.
Not that he was disappointed or anything. It just that maybe someone else was also listening and would like to hear something that sweet yet lonesome. Maybe someone else felt loved and not alone whenever he played that tune, even if it was the same tune over and over again. And maybe someone else would be knocking on his door.

Wait what?

Lovino returns to the present and hears the shuffling of feet from outside his door. He glanced at his wall clock which hung over the wooden drawers. It read 8:00 am. Strange. Not a lot of people woke up at 8:00 let alone be out of their rooms and scurrying like rats. The sounds ceased and there was loud thumping at his door. The day just got stranger and stranger. He put down his newspaper and cautiously peaked through the peephole and what he saw surprised him

It’s that guitar guy. What’s he doing here?

“Hello? Is anyone here? Please help me! He’s after me! He’s after all of us!” the voice from the other side of the door sounded a lot more different from when he was the guitarist at night. It had a cheerful edge but at them moment, it had that sort of panicked and urgent side. It made Lovino think twice of letting him in. What if he was running from someone? Did he do something wrong? Is he a fugitive? Danger must be his name, or something and the last thing he needed was his face with a mask among a clout of reports on the tabloid.

Then again, aren’t I also running away?

Before he could think twice, his hand moved on his own and unlocked his door sending a sweating man running inside and hiding someplace near the kitchen. The scurrying of the feet grew louder and Lovino knew better than to stand by the door and watch as he faces his doom. He shuts it quick and turns to leave only to be stopped by more knocking on the door, a small squeal sounding from the end of the room. Lovino scanned for anything he could use as a weapon and picks up a shoe. Raising it up, Lovino opens up and prepares to strike when a casserole plate was shoved in his face and in front of his stood a panting and sweating blond with thick eyebrows above his blue aquamarine eyes.

“I-Is the Spanish wanker inside?” he said with a deep and strong British accent.

This is what he’s hiding from?

He stared at the abomination spread on the casserole plate and choked back a laugh. “Excuse me? Who?”

“The Spanish wanker! The tall tan man from Spain, Antonio, the one with green eyes and smells like he just got out of the barn! I saw him run in this direction then disappeared. Is he inside?”

“What makes you think he’s in here, Eyebrows?”
“What!?”
“And if he is running from you, I think I know why.” He let his eyes move towards the casserole plate, provoking the Briton. Red immediately spread on the gentleman’s cheeks and as he began thrashing about, a tall flashy man with long blond wavy hair tied to a ponytail. He spoke to Lovino with a heavily accented French English. He apologized and moved the Briton away, whom Lovino found out to be the famous Arthur Kirkland, the horror cook of the apartment who lived with his French boyfriend, Francis Bonnefoy, the flashy man with long hair. Arthur consents to leaving after being promised by Francis he’d eat the leftovers and that they’ll get him some other time.

May he find happiness in Heaven.

Out of sight, out of mind, Lovino shuts the door and turns only to be tackled to the ground by a heavy object, a body to be exact and is drowned in hugs and words of thanks and simultaneous shouts to his ear of ‘My saviour!’ ‘My hero!’ Flustered and unsure of what to do, Lovino pushes him off a bit too roughly.

“What the fuck’s your problem, idiot! Don’t just pin people to the ground, especially not when you’re intruding in their privacy just to escape their own problems! And you’re a fucking man, running from ruined food which definitely I think is a nuclear weapon.”

Lovinos paused in need of air and the Spanish man kneeling in front of him just gaping. Suddenly, he let out a small laugh which eventually became a guffaw. Even his small chuckles were like music. Lovino sort of wondered if all Spanish had that good a voice, even their laugh sounds angelic.

At the thought, Lovino blushed a million shades of red.

“Wh-what’s so funny, bastard!? Don’t just laugh at shit and leave people out of it. It’s fucking rude!”

“Oh. Lo siento, mi amigo! It’s just that you read exactly what was on my mind the first day I met that British gentleman. He’s very nice, you know? Just not a very good cook though. His boyfriend, Francis? He could probably turn rocks into gourmet!”

“Okay one. I did not need to know that. Two, I think my apartment has served as your hiding place for far too long. I think it’s time for you to go.” Lovino stood but a hand took him by the arm and pulled him back down on the floor, sending him crashing.

“What the fuck, bastard! Is it a hobby to pull people down with you!?”
“I’m Antonio! Toni’s good. I’m Spanish, by the way. Hey, did you realize that almost everyone in this apartment is from a different country? Like this one on third floor, he’s from---”

“Would you shut up for a second?”
“Oh. Okay. Have I been talking too much? People always tell me I talk too much. I have this friend. His name’s Gilbert. He says he---”

Lovino snaps and slaps him on the head, hopefully shutting him up.
“That hurts...um...I didn’t quite get your name right, neighbor.”
“That’s because you talk too much.”
“Oh. Well, what’s your name? And country if applicable.” He chuckles a bit at his pun. Lovino snorts.

“I’m Lovino. Lovino Vargas. I’m Italian.”
“OH! An Italian! That makes us compadres then!” He says with a cheerful tone and slings an arm over Lovino’s shoulder. Lovino’s eyes darken and shrugs him off then stands up.He walks to the kitchen while Antonio’s eyes follow him.

“We are not friends. I don’t need the friendship. Now if you think you’re safe to go out, then just go. Or rather. Leave now and go hide in the basement or something.” He doesn’t turn around, fully focused on heating his lasagna that he doesn’t realize his unwanted guests was standing behind him, watching curiously as he moved the pan around and around.

“I see Francis has a rival!”
Lovino jumps, dropping the pan by mistake onto the stove. “AH! I said stop it! Great.” the stove goes off and he swivels 180 degrees to be greeted by a Spanish tanned man sitting comfortably on his only dining table seat, holding up a fork and apparenly, he had helped himself to some of the plates. “What do you think you’re doing?”

“Getting ready for food?”
“No you’re not. Get out.”
“Oh come on, Lovi!”
“No! And don’t call me Lovi!
“But it’s cute!”
“Yeah well I’m a man. Don’t call me cute.”
“You’re cute because you’re cute!”
“No!”
“So I shouldn’t call you cute?”
“Yes!”
“I should stop?”
“Yes!
“Are you going to give me lasagna?”
“Yes!”
“Hurray!”
“Wait, what!? You tricked me!”
“Did I?”
“Shut up. Just. You know what? Go ahead. I’m full anyway.”

“Oh Lovi, don’t be like that. Join me for breakfast. I interrupted you during breakfast didn’t I?”

Lovino stopped. Something in his voice made him turn around and actually reconsider.

“Please?”
“No.”
“I’ll even throw in a few tomatoes I grew myself as a thank you for the food AND for hiding me from that nuclear weapon.” Lovino chuckles a bit and strides toward the table, taking the seat the Spanish offers him and munches on his leftover lasagna. “Don’t call me ‘Lovi’ either, tomato bastard. It’s Lovino.” shrugging him off.

“’Tomato Bastard? That’s not something I hear everyday. “
“I call you whatever you want, as you barged in my room and then partake of my blessings Don’t you think it’s a fair trade, tomato bastard?” he said smirking.
“Touche.”
“Bon apetito.”

1777: War of Independence

"I'm no longer your little brother, nor am I your colony."

A platoon of soldiers at his opponent's beck and call, guns at the ready, and a single man clad in red Victorian Clothing , and glaring at the figure across him who was pointing his gun at point blank was a sight to behold under the heavy torrent of the summer rain,

"England, give me my freedom!"

No reply.

"England!"

"Shoot you goddamn, ungrateful twat! Shoot!" England shouted, his voice quivering from the tears he so tried to keep back. "Finish this!"

The blond holding the musket quivered at the words thrown at him. Oh how much he wanted so much to pull the trigger. And there in front of him stood the man that could very much give him the freedom he wanted. All he had to do was pull the trigger.

He held it up, his guards following suit, pointing to the now unarmed man.

"Shoot! America!"

The name resounded throughout the battlefield and in the ears of the blond in blue. For a second, he forgot what he had been there for. All he remembered now was the gentle smile of the young bachelor, his kind words and actions. Flashes of laughs and giggles and days under the sun seemed to come one after the other in fast paces. And from out of nowhere, the horrid smell of "cooking" filled the air. Peaceful nights ensued.

For a second he forgot this wasn't just the man that bore the name of the British Empire. He wasn't the man that trampled on millions just to expand his fame and glory. And he certainly wasn't the man that held the destiny of the one called, America and was now standing unarmed, drenched in the rain with eyes glaring at the other and alone on the battlefield.

He was just the man that took him in and cared for him and loved him with all that he had.

He was England. Just England.

His head bowed along with his rifle, sending a ripple to the guards at the back. "Enough of this. Just give me my freedom. Please."

The light that touched the palm of your extended hand passes through

Water the flowers that forgot to wake up

It's as if that is a landscape I'd seen some time. I can go back

I continued to draw alone Into this quiet night

July 1, 20XX: Three days until 4th of July

England sits at the far end of the countries' meeting table. sipping on his afternoon tea and feeling the soft gush of wind coming from the small gap through the window. "America! Enough with these stupid 'hero' business! Take this meeting seriously!"

"Why do you always go against my suggestions, huh England? I don't hear YOU coming up with any ideas." America's palms hit the table hard, the sound bouncing off the walls. "All you do is sit there and sip your tasteless tea."

England cringes at the sound of 'tasteless tea' and stands, striding to the direction of the American. "How dare you insult my teatime, you ungrateful twat!"

"What'd you call me?!"

"UNGRATEFUL. TWAT." England takes his index finger and flicks the blonde’s forehead, which gives him a yelp. America strokes the flicked area, tears in his eyes.

Sparks of lightning ignites between the two as they begin another everyday route that leads the world meetings to nowhere. From the other side of the table, France and the other countries snicker at each other from the everyday sight.

"Aren't you gonna do anything today, France?" Spain scoots over to the bearded long haired blond friend and whispers to him. "It's rare for you and Germany not to butt in today."

France just sighs and looks to Spain with knowing eyes. "Let's leave them be, mon ami. Not today." He then looks back to the two still arguing, even from being held back by the other concerned countries. And probably not for the rest of the week.

The day ended with yet nothing being done and everyone was getting ready to be done when someone speaks the dreaded words.

"Ve~ America's birthday is in three days, right?"

All hands stop fumbling with their briefcases or stop in their tracks and looks to the ground, others to the direction of both America and England. Germany heads to Italy's side and takes him by the shoulders.

"Let's go, Italy." he says, shoving the unknowing Italian hurriedly out the door. The intervention may have gotten all the other countries' focus back and were now scurrying out the meeting room. France steps to England's side and taps him before leaving the door.

The room is silent with only America and England alone, the tension rising between both males, until England decides to be the reasonable gentleman.

"What are you doing this year?"

"The usual, I guess. Fireworks, and drinks and all that." he replies, his eyes glued to his meeting materials.

"I see."

America's hands stop fumbling and he tilts his head upwards just a little bit. "Hey England---" he begins but is cut off by England's voice echoing from the other side of the room.

"America."

America looks to the direction of the other, now looking out the window. "I never told you." England then faces him and America is struck by the expression England had on his face.

It was the same face he used to give him when he was little and would be expectantly waiting his beloved England's return. Except now, it was clouded with that of sadness and traces of that reminiscent summer rain.

"The view from this window looks exactly like the place where I found you."

America felt something inside him snap. He makes an angry sound and scrambles to get his stuff and himself out of the meeting room, leaving England behind, not wanting to see the face he had on right now.

Once out of earshot and alone in the hallway, America drops to his knees holding his body, trying to stifle the sounds that were beginning to be obvious.

"A hero shouldn't be like this." he muttered to himself as he remained on the ground, a sobbing mess.

Close your eyes Where did the flowing tears go? On this long sleepless night, I search for the stars

July 4, 20XX

The sound of boiling hot water and the smell of burning scones were all you could notice in England's otherwise silent House. No one seemed to be at home, but if you were to strain your ears enough, you would hear the grumbling sounds of 'twat' or 'asshat' in between the sniffing sounds and the flurry of blankets being thrown to the ground.

It was the 4th of July. America's birthday. It was the day he got his freedom. The day he left England. And like every year, there would be a huge party gathering at America's home and everyone would be invited. Even England.

But like every year, England would stay at home.

Rainy nights in London are an everyday sight. It gave Londoners a reason to sip hot tea and chat with steaming hot scones adorning every plate

But tonight's rain was a little too nostalgic. As if the date was enough to give him nightmares, the rain would only make it worse. It was like the clouds were pouring the tears that his eyes would refuse to let fall. Every year, he would try to watch the celebration from his television box, to scare away the pain and to finally be rid of that sadness, only to end up even more scared of the thunders and the loneliness he would start to feel. He would curl himself up in a blanket, and wouldn't leave his room until the week ended.

My fingertips trace the colors lightly, if only by the fading shapes (Baby)

The grief that melted away from my trembling heart flowed endlessly.

England sat in his dark bedroom alone with only the moon's shine to shed light on the desolate room. The sound of thunder clapping makes him jump from fright and he quickly moves his ears to block out the sounds. How he wished the night would end soon.

The thunders’ sounds die out yet the rain remains. England looks out to his window to see the million stars light up the sky. His eyes glow and forget the sadness he feels and goes back to the times when he and America would be out late at night, gazing up at the stars in green fields and talking the night away. A tear trickles down his cheek and England too finds himself in uncontrollable sobbing.

The fleeting dreams that I was chasing disappeared, shaking my heart. I was told goodbye and didn't say anything back

Someone's voice calling out to me still echoes now

Tired of standing on my own and staring into the distance.

The stars mesmerized him. He could no longer hear the sound of the thunder and he sat there just gazing upwards tracing every single constellation he could. Each time recalling a memory he and America had.

He continued to look to the heavens until the rain stopped. From his soliloquy he comes to a decision: He had to let go of the past.

America was no longer who he once was. He was now the United States of America. He had to face the facts. He was now stronger than anyone, even stronger than England. He's no longer that boy that called out to him so lovingly, and clung to him like he was his mother.

"England!"

Ah, his voice had always been the most beautiful. Hearing it now, brings a new set of tears in his eyes. This was right.

"England!" A sudden burst through his door revealed the American blonde panting and soaked from the rain. But England kept his eyes glued to the outside window.

"You've grown so much, America." The Englishman takes his eyes away from the view and points it to the direction of the figure at his door with tears in his eyes. "I am so proud of you. I'm sorry."

The moon reflects you White and shining

The rain, without ever stopping, engulfs me.

America had planned to hold a party just like every year, but the sudden downpour put all his plans on hold. In the end, he resorted to holding his own party, alone.

Besides, it's not as if England's coming.

Thinking of England now, he must have been stupid.

This is his fault. He had to say that during the meeting.

To put his mind off things he bounces to the kitchen to make himself a homemade burger when the sudden thunderclap makes him jump and drop his burger to the floor. He looks out the window and sees the heavy rain had become a storm.

Once, in his old days, he had always been scared of the storm and would always seek England's company. Sure England would fall asleep first, but it was just enough to make him feel like he was loved and not alone.

He truly loved England and leaving him was probably the biggest decision he had to make. It hurt him, but he had to.

Another thunderclap and he finds himself scouring for his coat and car keys and headed for the Englishman's house.

Once he got there, he noticed the stillness of the British home. He tried calling for him but no one replies. America starts to worry and goes through every corner of the room until he notices upstairs where a faint light was showing through a small gap. He hurriedly climbed the stairs, calling out England's name and barges in on the room where England sat alone staring out the window, clad in his blanket, the moon's light shining on him.

"England."

"I'm so proud of you. America, I'm sorry."

America strides to the other's bed and engulfs him in a warm embrace. England leans on his chest, crying while America strokes his back.

This continued throughout the night, until the morning when they woke up together in nothing but a blanket to cover them both.

Smiles of glee greeted each other and eyes full of love stared at one another. "Happy birthday, America."

America strokes his head and kisses his forehead, and pulls him closer. "I love you too, England."

The light that touched the palm of your extended hand passes through

Water the flowers that forgot to wake up

It's as if that is a landscape I'd seen some time. I can go back

I continued to draw alone Into this quiet night

The fleeting dreams that I was chasing disappeared, shaking my heart. I was told goodbye and didn't say anything back

Someone's voice calling out to me still echoes now

Tired of standing on my own and staring into the distance.

C'mon, baby Hit the floor C'mon, baby Hit the floor

C'mon, baby Let's go to another world Together with you to another world
That's right, you're definitely tonight's secret lady

C'mon, baby Let's go to another world Together with you

Like how bubbles fade, the glass is about to disappear soon. So come over to this side
A scent that tickles at my nose dances around---

Loud party music boomed through the speakers and colourful lights flashed in rhythm. Teens, girls and boys, shot glasses in hand jumped up and down getting drunk, and making out with every random stranger they can find. The smell of perfume mixed with the scent of bodily fluids and alcohol as the party continued in the local bar of the college neighbourhood.

In the midst of all this, Jun sat at the counter, alone and gulping down his seventh shot of Bourbon. He slammed down his shot glass and asked for another.

“Gimme another, master.”

“Got your heart broken or something, bud?” The bartender remarked, as he poured in another for the young man. Jun takes in a few sips.

More like it shattered into a gazillion pieces and flew off with the wind.

His shot glass was nearly empty when someone sits beside him and orders the drink the same one he has. Jun is surprised as he recognizes that voice and realizing that the person beside him is Ohno.

“Master, Bourbon. On the rocks.”

He wouldn’t mistake that voice for anyone else. The posture the way he sat, he was positive, it was his precious Riida that got his heart broken that same night.

But it seems that Ohno hadn’t recognized him yet and the lights were so dim he himself could hardly see the other’s face.

Nevertheless, Ohno scoots toward him voluntarily and strikes a conversation.

“Great night for a party huh?”

Great night indeed,

Jun just nodded.

“You alone?”

Once again, he nods in agreement. Ohno really couldn’t see him.

Could this be his chance?

“You can’t speak huh? That’s fine, I guess. You’re pretty approachable. Do you think you would mind listening to an old man ramble?”

Old Man, he says. If he only knew who he was talking to, and what he had always thought of him.

Jun shakes his head. Despite the crappy lighting, he could tell Ohno was delighted to have someone to talk to.

No one else here has such an enchanting gaze

Before you get noticed by someone else, I'll become your daring escort who's longing for love

But while Ohno keeps talking, Jun listens silently for fear Ohno might realize it was him and things would get out of hand. He would just constantly nod or shake his head, raise his glass in agreement, but that was it. The music changes into a slow Latin song and Jun looks at Ohno, who was sipping from his shot glass.

God he looked like an angel. He had always looked like an angel, but tonight, under the dim lighting and the tempting music, his angel was dangerously sending out signals to him. He was starting to lose control. He had to keep himself in check so he decides to bid his good bye after finishing his last drink so nothing would happen.

However his plans go down the drain when he gulps down the remains of his drinks and begins to stand when Ohno takes him by the arm. He shudders as his arm felt the soft palm take hold of him. This wasn’t good.

“You’re leaving? Do stay, and dance with me.”

Jun was reluctant, he had the feeling he would be found out. He tries to wiggle his way out of it however it was getting hard to refuse him without having to let the other hear his voice. Reluctantly, Jun agrees and is dragged by the hand onto the dance floor.

It felt like there were more people than there were at the beginning as Jun felt Ohno being pressed to him by the crowd. They begin dancing, their bodies still pressing against each other to the tempting song. All Jun could do was stare. He was dancing but his eyes remained locked onto his partner who was now dancing dangerously close to him. He tried to keep his mind focused somewhere else, but to no avail.

Ohno has always been the best dancer in Arashi. And no one knew that more than Jun who had always kept his eyes on him, studying him carefully, every sway of his hips, every curve, and the grace he would show in his footwork. If he danced so well, what would he be like, squirming underneath him, clinging onto Jun and screaming his name in pleasure?

Let's escape the light. On ships that made even skyscrapers float

Stranger without a name, welcome to the other side of dreams

Jun would never dare tell anyone his thoughts. It was taboo in his work. They weren’t allowed to fall in love. He was male, and so was his love and he wouldn’t know how Ohno would react. He was to maintain his image. But he was okay. Watching him, it was fine. If at least only in his dreams, they were together, it was fine.

But now, even that is forbidden.

For his love now had a significant someone.

It broke his heart once he knew about it. It wasn’t made public, but he was the first one who knew. Ohno told him personally. He was called “a good friend” If being friend-zoned wasn’t bad enough, it seemed that Ohno really loved the girl. So what could he do but smile and congratulate him with a huge smile on his face. He would tell him he would pray for their happiness. And then before the tears could show themselves, he excused himself and ended up in a local bar, alone and drowning himself in alcohol. Even tonight, as Ohno talked to him, all his words ever contained was his beloved and how wonderful it felt to be with her. It hurt so much to just listen. During the entire conversation he had wanted to blurt out countless times how mistaken Ohno was and how Jun wanted the chance to prove he was better.

He never thought it would lead up to this moment. But now that it’s here, he believed it was a work of fate. A chance like this would never come again.

He throws all his restraints out the window and drowns himself in the music and in Ohno, holding him close, feeling him up, making Ohno go crazy with every touch , every caress. No one would know. Not Ohno. Not his lover. No one. Not even Jun Matsumoto.

After all, he wasn’t Jun, or MatsuJun or J. And he wasn’t dancing with Ohno or the Riida of Arashi.

He was just a stranger with no name, dancing with his dream on the other side of paradise.

Baby I'll show you an unknown world
I think you'll definitely like it Another world
If there's anything that makes you sad, then I'll hide it away for a hundred million years
Baby That back that you bared to me, I won't let anyone else touch it
It's no use worrying about things outside the window They're just traps to split us apart
I'll never let you go.

--------------------

Jun presses the stop button and leans back on his chair to digest what he had just heard. Ohno bounds toward him and takes him by the shoulders. “Jun-kun? What do you think?”

Jun feels his inner wall collapse as he takes one hand Ohno had on his shoulders and pulls Ohno towards him, just close enough for their foreheads to touch. He looks up at him, with the same eyes he had that night.

“J-Jun...-kun?”

“It was good. I feel the real you in it.”

C'mon, baby Hit the floor C'mon, baby Hit the floor

C'mon, baby Let's go to another world Together with you to another world
That's right, you're definitely tonight's secret lady
